Fuji x100 street examples!

Agree they are good shots; I read the comments and some of the commenters were claiming they knew the poster "They should give you the camera Thom. " So I wonder if it really was Thom Hogan? ...or just an internet red herring... It certainly seemed the poster knew what he was doing; -the guy's stream is great.

Edit - sorry; I think I got that wrong; should have spent more time researching before posting. Looking further through the guys stream there is further info about workshops etc... and he seems to be referred to as Tom, Thomas and Thom, but it's a pretty long bow to draw. Damn; I'm just another idiot spreading misinformation on the net!

I'm think'n that this thing is gonna be so sharp and detailed, especially in RAW, that missed focus and sloppy focus techniques are gonna be obvious.😛

...If I'm right about that, then I agree. Images look all right so far. It's too early to hail the "creamy 3d bokeh flavor" of the lens. That "x100" look that we'll talk about in 10 years has not yet emerged.

It looks like a competent camera thus far, and I do dig the design. But for me I haven't seen anything that has made me drop my coffee and put my ailing macbook out of its misery. But we haven't really seen all that much from it at all...
 
You always get one person who likes to stir the pot - and that's ok.

Day of release, I'm shooting a cards worth and sticking EVERY picture online for you all to look at. Hopefully the weather wont be miserable.

That's the point of this camera. It matches a Modern DSLR in a small, compact package. A really high-quality fixed-lens RF "in the day" could match an SLR, and be easier and faster to use. A Konica S2 matches a Nikon F2a with a Nikkor 50/2.

IF I post that a Konica S2 matched a Nikon F2a with a 50/2, I'm not going to tick off any Konica S2 fans.

This camera is as good as any modern DSLR. WOW!

I really don't know what else to expect.

Every top tier digital cameras for the last few years produce about the same image "look." The digital look. Some lauded those as best Image Quality ever, some other see sterile, dull, lifeless images.

The rave on X100 is about the experience of shooting with it. That, won't be the same as when using a DSLR.
 
I disagree. I think people are simply freaking out with digital, we've been using film for so long we're scared of changing everything we do after pressing the shutter release. Much of the soul of traditional shots comes from how it's printed, with digital it'll be how it's digitally processed. We need a few years working this way to develop our souls.

Currently we are still in the excited, let's try every button and download every nasty preset stage.

Coming back to X100, I think even if Fuji stops all promotional activity for this camera, it will still be holdout for the first few months of its release.

I agree, you should never hold out for anything, you should get out there and do - or stay here and discuss.
 
I agree with _larky. The job of a digital camera is to produce images (raws) that are as neutral as possible so that the photographer can define the look of the images in post-processing. While I like the Velvia-ish images above, I'm not going to be shooting jpegs, and I don't expect the camera to do my work for me. The straight-out-of-camera X100 images we'll be seeing very much of on flickr are just about meaningless to me. This camera is all about the form factor and controls.
