Fuji x100 street examples!

My Digital image workflow used to involve writing custom code for any effect that I wanted. When Photoshop came out, it made things a little faster.
 
Agreed with several posters above, those images could be from a Canon G10, or a Oly EP2, etc... I get that the form factor and shooting experience will be different, but to laud the images as anything more than decent digital images seems interesting to me.

Exactly the reason why I am buying it. It sure will make some upcoming work in Mai Sot, Thailand (and hopefully across the boarder in Burma) a lot easier. The Burmese government is not exactly too kind to foriengers, or press. At least I can hide the press look a bit with this. The D3 and fast glass, even if just a 50 f/1.4 still gathers a bit of attention. Hopefully this is a wake up call for Leica.

I believe lot of us will. At the very least as a second if not primary body. There's a lot of buzz on this on Lightstalkers at the moment, and a lot of my colleges are talking of at least one if they prove to be as good as the preliminary information suggests. I knew three Iraqi embeds now in Afghanistan who are using Leica's now, and a few with the Washington Post who still use RF's. Yes, the big Nikon's a workhorses, but in combat zones, or areas of volitile natuires, we have to move, and move fast. Most PJ's I know are leaving the longs behind at camp and are shooting one lens, one body. Some still do two, but we have to move out as fast as the troops we're embedded with. and it's not jsut the PJ embeds wither that want to run light. US older guy's backs are just dying after decades of heavy gear.

I still do that! What languages did you code in?
 
Alls I'm saying is is that this is a nice camera... There were some concerns that have been expressed like, "I have to wait to see the pic... IQ - alla dat..." What did you expect? It's Fuji, they know how to make an APSC camera, there aren't really any major innovations, except perhaps a VF design, and the camera produces what you'd expect... very good quality images... this stuff is a mature technology.

Exactly, and that's going to make the sweet form factor even sweeter.

I used the Optical Viewfinder (OVF) mode most of the time.
As you know, I am more a reportage photographer. Responsiveness of the camera is crucial to me in capturing the right moment. Finepix X100 is the fastest compact that I have had used before. It is responsive and yield great result from amazing colours, contrast, great ISO, sharpness and fast focusing.
I love the retro of a rangefinder styled compact. I love the aperture ring and shutter dial. I do not have to lift up my eye from the viewfinder while adjusting the settings, It is just like the great old time when I owned the Contax RTS II and III. That allowed me to capture panning shot easily.

I love this camera. It has the ability to cope with challenging issues in the street.

I think the X100 passed with flying colour. The OVF mode is really a dream come through for a compact as there is no time lag upon pressing the shutter button. The APS C sensor really did justice here in ensuring hi-res images. The 35mm lens is super sharp especially at f4. Even at f2, I can't see sign of softness."
 
Looks like the last camera anyone will ever have to buy. How could you top the X100? With the not yet announced X200, I'm sure. (Fuji has this marketing thing down).

Seriously, can't wait to see the images RFF'ers create with this new camera.
 
same here, and as the 'carry everywhere camera' where the alternative would be a M9 with 35mm lens, more size, cost and more worry!

The more lenses I use the more I realise I should leave more of them at home. I have done most of my best work with 35mm (with 24mm in second place) and know that this camera carries the one FL I can always make things work with. Great!

Not to rain on anyone's parade here, but check the DOF on that (admittedly beautiful) shot: quite deep, and through a 35mm (film-equivalent) focal length. There is, in fact, little for any AF system to do; probably better to leave AF off for something like this. The important factor, composition aside, was having adequate light and/or good high-ISO sensor performance for a fast shutter speed to capture all those running kids crisply. I wouldn't need to X100 (or even an AF camera, RF or SLR) for something like this.

Another point: Thank goodness this post has shots taken in true documentary style in a far away third world location. I get tired of seeing photos of cats, wine glasses, etc,,,,. This is real street photography done with a tool Fuji designed for that type of photography.

Can't argue with that. The whole series is stunning. He's simply a good shooter.

Some undoubtedly will. Others seem to love their stovepipe-and-brick kits.

I would think that it would be either this, or hold off on distribution until they had more cameras. At least this way, many of us can monitor the feedback from those with an early X100 and decide if our purchase (or not) plans are justified. In any case, their production distribution will be at a much faster pace than the X1. So, the numbers should mount quickly in a short time.
