The next minor firmware update for the X100 is available.

The firmware update Ver.1.11 incorporates the following issues.
  • 1.Performance of auto focus at near distance has been improved.
  • 2.When "SHADW TONE" is set to "MEDIUM SOFT" or "SOFT", live view in LCD may display with abnormal pattern (so-called "solarisation") just after pressing the shutter halfway. This update improves the phenomena.
  • 3.When self-timer mode is selected, focus and exposure (AE/AF) are set just after pressing the shutter button and these settings are remained for the final shutter releasing.
The firmware is available for downloading here.

When doing the update, please note that all your user settings as well as the image counter will be reset.

First reports are claiming that MF ring responsiveness might have improved. I'll yet have to verify that ...

I've just upgraded OK and inserted the SD card that I was using prior to the upgrade and after making a couple of test shots the image counter just carried on with the same series as before. So this is a way of not losing your image count. I recently received mine from a repair for the sticky blade problem and even with 1.10 I felt it was snappier so I don't know if I will see any difference with 1.11, in any case I must admit that I never did have any major problems with focussing (unlike some that have posted in various forums).

Hmmm I bought mine on sunday - it's definitely a fresh batch in the serial numbers, and it had fw 1.11 already installed on it...

Close focus in low light has definitely improved.

It was my only slight disappointment, now it's close enough to perfect for me!

The instructions for computer to camera via cable don't work, and the pdf from the US site is inaccessible for some reason. I could not find my card reader. For Mac, connect the camera via USB:

1. Download the FPUPDAT.DAT file and put it on the desktop.
2. Download the FFUPDATRF.dmg transfer file disk image, launch the disk and copy the file to the desktop.
3. Turn on the camera. Quit iPhoto or any other software launched by the camera connection.
4. Double click the FFUPDATE file.
5. Press OK and the DAT file is copied to the camera SD card.
6. Turn off the camera.
7. Disconnect the cable.
8. Turn on the camera while pressing the DISP/BACK button.
9. Press the left arrow and press OK to start the 1.10 to 1.11 firmware upgrade.
10. Press OK.
11. Wait.
12. It's done and you can turn off the camera.
