I haven't been able to find the info on this, is it an "extra" and/or what might it cost?

I take it that because there are no filter threads, this will be a proprietary item, priced accordingly? Slightly less than a Leica hood but still $80 or so for what Heavystar charges $9 for.

Has any vendor listed it yet?

It looks pretty cool. But, I prefer the rectangular hoods. Those simply shout "big money." 🙂

Seriously, haven't seen anything on the lens hood other than pictures.

I am planning to buy one of those cheap flimsy black rubber ones from B&H. I almost never use a hood, and the few times I do, a 6 dollar deal should suffice. Plus if you find one the right diameter, you don't even need the adaptor ring (which is also extra).

I am guessing the case will be around 100, the adaptor 30 or so, and the hood 40-60

Just give it a little time, Frank. I predict in summer we will have Luigi de Luxe cases for > US 200, Korean "abortive calf leather" cases, as well as Heavystar hoods.

Note "metal" vented hood.

An X100 user in Japan has found a neat alternative to the bulky and rather conspicuous Fuji hood:

It still requires the Fuji adapter ring, but it won't obstruct the viewfinder. I contacted the image author and he says the Pentax hood does not vignette at any aperture value.

Filters can be mounted inside the hood, and need to have a 30.5mm diameter. The X100 user also states that the hood even works in macro mode with his filter, but cautions to use a filter that is as flat as possible to avoid the lens hitting the filter.

Here's a view that shows how the filter is mounted:

B&H has the hood in stock (as of my writing). Please note that due to crazy shipping charges, this offer most probably only makes sense for the US.

European users might look at this thread: I'm trying to find European users for a collective order in Germany, as this hood is a spares part that isn't normally available in camera stores.

Arjay - I saw these pictures and it seems like a neat alternative. I also know there is a silver version of the lens that hood was originally designed for, in silver itself. Have you seen anywhere that sells the silver hood? If I can locate one of those I'd be considerably more interested.
