Hey gang, good morning. I've been playing with my new X100S since last friday and... I have to admit... It's even better then I expected it to be. While I'm still in the testing phase, I did take quite a few pictures that turned out surprisingly well. The low light capability is everything I expected. It happily took excellent pictures in situations that gave my other cameras and lenses fits.
I've mainly shot it with autofocus, program mode, auto balance, etc. the past week, just to get a feel for what the camera actually sees, and I have no complaints. It was snappy in most situations. Two issues were: close focus is still a hit-or-miss unless you actively switch it to macro. For some reason, it also doesn't like to focus on an overcast sky with some buildings in front. I had no trouble shooting into a sky with some clouds, but cloudless or fully cloudy gave it some trouble. Lack of contrast, obviously. In too bright situations, I did notice a tendency for the lens to flare. A hood will definitely be a good investment for bright days.
I've shot raw and jpg, but since I need to upgrade my raw software... I've mainly looked at the jpg's. The results, to my eye, are excellent. I went on a trip with a colleague yesterday and shot well over 400 photo's. Some with filters, some without, just having some fun. Mostly landscapes and buildings, cemetary, churches, etc. It handled it all quite well. I really like the colors on the X100S and the filters and film options do add to the fun factor of using it.
Switching the viewfinder is a treat as well. I used the OVF in situations where I had ample framing or too much light. The EVF came in handy to fine tune the framing a bit.
All in all, I'd say we'll get along just fine. Next week I'll be shooting it in mostly manual modes, just to see what I can really do with it.
If anyone feels like taking a peek at what an auto-most-of-it X100S does with jpg... here's your chance.

Straight out of the camera, so be forewarned: I mostly offer these so people can check the exif and pixel peep till their eyeballs fall out.
