What happened to th 1" sensor?
They also dropped the ovf.
I very much liked the x20 but ultimately the 2/3" sensor made me sell it.
The X30 was long rumored to have a 1" sensor (ala nikon v1 and sony rx100).
Rumors are BS![]()
I just handled the X30. The new viewfinder is brilliant! I compared it side-by-side with the X-E2 viewfinder and I thought the X30's to be significantly brighter.
And the new ring around the lens barrel is nice for manual focus.
I think these 2/3" and 1" sensors being put into modern compact cameras are quite useful, especially in reasonable light (I had the X20 and now have a Nikon 1 V3). The downside for me might be the 12mp file size... possibly not enough for bigger prints. I'm going to do some experiments with the old files I have from the X20 and see how big I can print them. If big, then I'm very interested in the X30... feels great in the hand and I very much like that viewfinder.

Depends on your definition of "bigger prints" - I have A3 pictures from my 6mp KM Dynax 7D on my wall, A2 must be possible with 12mp.The downside for me might be the 12mp file size... possibly not enough for bigger prints.

I do not agree!
I have been out and about with the X30 for some days now, and small sensor or not, it handles wonderfully.
The EVF is a beauty, the control ring on the lens lets me focus manually with ease or change the aperture like on any nice lens.
The pics are VERY good, and I guess if I don't do giant prints that are viewed from very close up, the sensor is absolutely able to do the trick.
As for depth of field and subject isolation, just live with it! Use it for it's strong points.
I love it!

I got a X30 last week and test drove it in Paris last weekend. I love it! The EVF is great, I love the WYSISWYG approach of EVF's. Handling is great too. I don't care for the tilting LCD though, it makes the camera larger.

I am not sure if you're totally serious with this sweeping statement, but it depends what you're using them for. If you do large prints, sensor size matters much more than if you post mostly to the Web. For example, my Ricoh GRD IV has a tiny sensor, but Web posts look great, both in sharpness and color. In fact, I sold my Canon 6D, because for my style of photography and purpose (street, travel and Web posting), the Ricoh is superior.

The big selling point with the X10 and much better 20 was the OVF.
Clearly not, except amongst a few enthusiasts.
Likely the price point set the sensor size as did the EVF over the OVF.
Likely Fuji looked at the consumer who does purchase and decided they will not know the difference; those consumers buy on price.

Well, I don't know. Let me try and put it another way.
By removing the OVF from the Xnn series, they removed what differentiated (enthusiast viewpoint or otherwise) it from the sea of similar cameras, Fuji or otherwise. Whatever familial affiliation to the bigger OVF X brothers (100 and Pro1) the OVF provided the little Xnn is now gone.
How will it sell? Who knows? But I would think it could well be the last of the series.

Almost all VF's below certain price point will go EVF.
Why? Cost.

Eighteen months on from the last post I purchased an x30 at a very reasonable price. It is ergonomically superb with excellent style and build quality and the zoom covers the focal lengths I use 95% of the time. I also like the colours it produces at 400 but the IQ at EIs higher than 400 is not good with fuzzy, washed out colours and poor sharpness. I put some photos of a recent trip to Cuba up in my RFF gallery, if you're interested. In any case this little camera has introduced me to the Fuji-X world and generally I'm impressed and planning on an XPro 2 later in the year...

As well as an XM1 and XE2, I have a little XQ1 which has the same sensor and processor as the X20. It's compact enough to carry everyday and gives better results than my iPhone.

I've never been happy with using tablets or phones for taking pictures -- too used to pressing a button

It's almost Photokina. Does anyone think Fuji will finally follow up with a 1" sensor X40 ?
I had the Sony RX100 for a while and really loved the images from 1" sensor but disliked the cameras usability.
Tried the Fuji X20 which handled so nicely but the images were lackluster.
High hopes for the X30 squashed by another undersized sensor.
Have been hoping for a fuji everyday zoom with 1" sensor ever since.
Anyone else in that mode?

As another pointed out quite a while ago, m43 cameras are available (GM5) that run circles around a 1" sensor for less money. I have an RX100M3. I limit it to ISO 500. After that it's obnoxious.

Hi JDI
I've tried all those cameras and still really just prefer the Fuji handling aesthetic.
If they(fuji) want to build it around an M43 sensor... great! (it won't happen,... 1" would be fine)
