Fuji XT-3 Will It Live Up to the Hype?

By the sound of it, a lot of things have been upgraded including autofocus, sensor, video quality and overall operation. This should be a great camera for someone looking for a top shelf aps-c mirrorless camera, and possibly a competitor for full frame mirrorless cameras as long as you don't need full frame depth of field control. As for hype, I'm not seeing a lot of hype, just a comparison of old and new, and what the possibilities will be. No one is promising you'll shoot pro sports or make an Oscar winning movie with it.

I genuinely hope so. I've used an X-T1 for four years and think it's a wonderful camera. A good friend swears by his X-T2 and comments that it's a noticeably better camera than the 1st incarnation. Not so much that an upgrade is a must, but an overall improved shooting and imaging experience.

If the word on the 3rd incarnation is correct, we're living in very generous times for making photographs.

What's the hype? It being capable of competing with the D500 with better video to go? Surely that is not impossible to pull off?

I haven't noticed the X-T3 being hyped. It's flying under the radar after the Canikon mirrorless announcements, probably partly because it doesn't have IBIS and a fully articulated screen.

It's a marked improvement over the X-T2 at a lower initial price, so chances that it'll be disappointing are low.

Not sure what hype there is to live up to... seems like a better X-T2. The X-T2 was already a great camera. All of these new cameras are pretty nice. None of them will stop you from getting your best photos.

I predict the new AF system will deliver a significant improvement in overall AF performance. The AF improved steadily for the camera's I owned (X100 --> X-Pro 1 --> X-T1/X100T --> X-Pro 2). The XT-3 AF is more sophisticated, quicker and more sensitive in low light (rated at -3EV).

The XT-3 sensor should benefit by switching to a back lit design and lowering the native ISO to 160. It remains to be seen to what degree these upgrades improve perceived image quality.

I tend to update things at most every other update, so I will have to wait until at least the XT4, if I don't move to the GFX/R before then.

In July, I bought the X-H1 as an upgrade to the X-T1. Works for me.

I agree with dof's friend. I also think the X-T2 is "a noticeably better camera than the 1st incarnation". But I'm can't get the X-T3 because I'm afraid I'd look crazy since I'd own all three versions!?

Oh well, maybe I'll just keep waiting for a faster focusing non-rangefinder medium format from Fuji.

Hrrm, well I have avoided it with the XT series (though i will likely get the XT3 when the right offer comes around) but in the house we have XE1 (infra red conversion though) XE2(my wife uses it ) and XE3 I just got, I also now have both Xpro models (time to really sell some things) . I love my XT1 but now I have the Xpro2 and the XE3 the old Xpro and the XT1 will likely move on (and then maybe i will get the 3, and consider selling xe3 and x100 to get latest x100 and a couple of wr primes ...) gas is killing me lately

I haven't seen much hype. I see no compelling reason to upgrade from the XT2. Of course, some people just have to have the latest model. They are usually the ones with empty wallets.

I’m happy with my XT-2 and see no reason to get an XT-3 for my purposes. I think my next Fuji body purchase will be the X-H2 (2020?).

My friend who bought the x100F recently has just bought an XT3. Absolutely loves it.

A few days ago I almost bought a Fuji X100F or possibly an X-Pro2. But now I am getting excited (or better: confused) by the XT-3 and the Canon EOS RP.

The market for (affordable) mirrorless is getting so crowded and I am more confused than ever! 😕

I've owned many of the Fuji bodies... X100 series, XT1, XPro1 and 2. Recently bought the X-H1 for the IBIS... works great. And the shutter feel/sound is much softer/quieter than previous bodies.

I have the x100, xPro-1, and XT-1 so I guess I'm a Fuji early adopter, or at least an early model adopter. I find myself using the XT-1 more than the others because it's just quicker and I like the size. They all produce fine quality images for me. Been looking at the XT-3 just for the focusing and startup speed improvement, but like others hard to justify another camera. It gets great reviews, doesn't seem like hype. Knowing myself, if I keep looking, I'm sure I'll bite the bullet at some point.

I think it is worth upgrading to from a 16mp Fuji, but maybe not from the 24mp versions. I can tell you that an X-Pro3 with this same upgrade would not make me buy it and I love the xpro series.
