Fuji Xt1 too professional for me? Downgrade?

Hey everyone,

I've been thinking about this for a long time and wanted to get others opinions on it.

Essentially, the XT1 fits into a weird spot for me. I have a professional Nikon setup for my business and professional work. I've used the XT1 for some pro work, mainly studio and some event work but it's mostly a personal camera. However, it doesn't fit great into that category, it feels too large for a personal camera with the 23mm 1.4 attached, and I don't feel like carrying it out on a whim because of the size.

Thinking of selling it, the 23 and the 35mm for an x100T.

Thoughts?
 
If it don't feel right get rid of it better sooner than later. Do a try out or rent the X 100T before buying it. Comfort is one of the most important things when choosing a camera if you don't feel comfortable with your tool there is no point in keeping it. I personally would handle and try out several camera including some of the m4/3 offerings from Oly and Panasonic before finally deciding to buy a camera. The M4/3 cameras are small and plenty good enough.

Forgot to mention I came to the XT1 from the X100 and I loved that camera, very nice, except for the ISO and focus issues which are corrected i imaginein the x100T. Also I've heard that the lens in the X100T isn't as good as the 23mm 1.4
 
Can't say anything re the XT-1, but I love my X100T for what it does

it all depends on the usage you envision and your preferences

I love the intuitive ergonomics and OVF/EVF of the X100T, it's not for action or tele shots though and not weather proof

for the rain forests - I like my E-M1 🙂
 
I think one should enjoy using their personal camera. I used a two X-T1 bodies for gigs and a X-Pro 1 for my personal camera.

When I stopped doing gigs I ended up with one X-T1 and a X100T. The only thing I don't like about the X-T1 is it doesn't have the hybrid finder. If it did, I would probably still have two X-T1s.

I also feel the 23/1.4 is too large for everyday, personal use. I used mine for specific projects so I didn't use it much. I sold the 23/1.4 when I purchased the X100T.

I used the 18/2, 27.2.8 and 35/1.4 on the X-T1 for personal use. The 27/2.8 was my default lens. I sold the 35/1.4 last fall and bought the 35/2. It is just that much smaller (and the lens AF technology is significantly better).

From a technical standpoint the 23/1.4 is superior to the X100/S/T 23/2 lens. At the same time the 23/2 is quite nice from f 4 to ~ f 8. At wider apertures the lens has a different character. This lens reminds me of the Zeiss C-Sonnar 50/1.5 lens which has a spit personality as well. Of course I don't mean to imply there is a direct comparison with the C-Sonnar 50/1.5's overall performance. At some point the X100/S/T lens was improved. This is a subtle change that affects strange flare artifacts around strong, point-source lights such as street lights in might scenes. However the 23/2 is much more vulnerable to flare and ghosting than the 23/1.4.

At one point I was tempted to pick up the X100 teleconverters (TCL-X100 for 33mm and the WCL-X100 for 19mm). These are high-quality optics and are priced accordingly. However they do increase the size/bulk of the X100. I used the 23mm field-of-view for a daily carrier for years, so I decided to skip the teleconverters and just keep the X-T1 and XF lenses.
 
I've just sold my EM5s and I'm going back to using my original X100. The Oly em5s were good cameras, very fast AF, sharp lenses but I found niggling things that I couldn't get over. I still have the 12mm f2 and the Panaleica Summilux to sell. Looking forward to shooting with my X100 again. It's probably all I need most of the time, it's GAS that's the problem.
 
I agree, life to short, sell the camera.. Gets something u like.

It sounds like u already know what u want (x100t), just wanted a feel about selling the xt1. Given your history w/ x100 (original), it is a known quantity. X100t is just gonna be better in terms of af and overall performance.

If I don't get an offer I like, I'm thinking I can stick out the XT1, though I'd prefer X100T.

Haven't seen the actual ad yet. But given those two lenses u got include in the picture, it appears reasonable to me.

If I didn't already have an xt1 setup, it would be tempting.
