DPReview Fujifilm Japan has announced it has now resumed production of its X100 large-sensor compact. The company says that, after a brief interruption caused by the combined earthquake and tsunami that hit its Japanese plant, it has now resumed production and the camera should reach stores from the first week of April.

For those following the X100 closely, this is old news. However, it is very good news for those folks as well.

My first reaction was being happy people are getting their lives back on track and making a living to support their families. My second thought is I am glad I will buy one in that I am helping Japan recover by putting money into their economy. My last (and I mean last!!!) thought was for myself being pleased that I will have the opportunity to own this camera.

The Fuji X100 is one of the few "Japanese" cameras which is actually made in Japan, which is one of the reasons I will buy one. Nikon, Canon, Ricoh, Olympus, etc. are produced in China, Thailand, and elsewhere.
Frontman, certain Pro nikons are certainly made in japan. I'm sure that is the case with others as well.

ΜY 5D is made in Japan as well. In terms of build quality I dont know if it actually means anything these days, but growing up whenever there was something in the house that survived more than one generation of unruly kids, it usually had "made in Germany" or "made in Japan" engraved on it. So I know its probably just psychological, but it certainly is reassuring to read made in Japan on the baseplate of my x100

Judging from the design aesthetics and look and feel (well, look, I didn't feel) it seems that Cosina must have been involved. Of course we can't prove it, but there is a lot of circumstantial evidence in design and the fact that Cosina makes all RFs, including Fuji branded, in Japan these days. X100 is not quite an RF, but still the expertise is surely useful.
So I sort of assumed in the back of my mind that the Cosina factory is the place. They apparently have not been directly impacted by the earthquake. But of course, the supplies of sensors and glass may need to be refilled from elsewhere.
