I really love the guys over at my local shop. They got 3 of these in today and called me as soon as it came in. Luckily I was free and made a bee line for the store to pick up a copy.

Like the 18-55mm this one has the firmware on an SD card in the box. So even though there is firmware pending via Fuji's site, it looks like I can put this on and go out in today's cold and play with it right away.

I'll report back here with JPEGs (RAW conversion will have to be done at home. . . ) but at least you'll have a chance to see what this thing is like.

Cheers,
Dave

Congrats!!!

It is cold out there today, be sure to bundle up!!!

Would love to hear how the new implementation of manual focus works in the real world.

Yikes! That's exciting. I was out today in snowy Vermont with the 15/4.5 Heliar and saw a little smearing of detail in the corners. I would be particularly interested in how the RAW/JPG data looks in the corners.

DOH!! Battery in the camera is not "fully charged" so the Fuji SD Card will not let me update the firmware, looks like I'm waiting till I get home :(

Cheers,
Dave

What I can tell you right now - the focus throw on the focus ring is so short - it's maybe one third of the ring to go from 18cm to infinity . Size wise, it's about as tall as the zoom (18-55) when the zoom is compacted, maybe just a smidge shorter. Fuji is also including those nice cloth "bags" that they included with the zoom.. makes it a lot easier to carry the lens around without fear of the finish getting scuffed whilst in the bag.

Cheers,
Dave

DOH! you don't have your spares in your bag? Always have them. Always.

Ya :(
I had them there today at home and I looked at them and thought "I don't need them today". . . . boy was I wrong.

That said, I called Downtown Camera and they have a charger, so I'm hoofing it over there to charge and play :)

Dave

MAN! Look at the corners in those pix. Sharpie, sharp, sharp. Thanks for posting Dave. I spent some time looking at 15/4.5 Heliar performance in XP1 snapshots today and I have to say I think your Fuji lens is a winner.

Here's a link to 5 test jpegs - ignore subject matter but it gives you an idea of the what the lens can do:

I REALLY like the way this lens handles. I tried out the manual focus lock and I can definitely see that being useful at f5.6 and beyond. This lens, to me, right now, is a keeper.

Cheers,
Dave

NICE :D. Thanks for sharing. Is it possible to get a size comparison photo w/o lens hood between the 35f1.4 and the new 14f2.8.
