Sorry if this question has been asked before, apart from feild of view how does the Fujinon 27/2 stand up along side the 23/2 of the X100

the biggest difference is that an x100 is not an x-pro1.

very interesting, I cannot wait for my 27mm to arrive, but also toying with grabbing an X100 to go along side my X Pro 1

When covering events, festivals, protests and parades I often shoot with both my Xpro and X100 Mick. With the Xpro I often go wide and up ntil yesterday it wouldve been the CV 15mm, however I just sold that. Got the new Samyang 12mm coming soon. currently looking for a XF 60mm. That will become my longest lens.

Joe, can you elaborate? Do you mean that you see a large IQ difference between the X100 and the X-Pro1?

Since I have the x100, I actually never really had the urge to pick up the 23f1.4 because I actually like the smaller form factor of the x100 setup.
The x100 is a 12mp Bayer sensor vs your xp1 that has a 16mp xtran sensor which provides u w/ a bit more mega pixels but also a stop more iso capability. The x100s uses the same 16mp xtran sensor but w/ some phase detect cells added to it and a faster CPU..
So there is an iq difference, but I don't plan on replacing my x100 until it gives up the ghost. For how I use the x100 and considering that the max print I ever make is only 13x19, I don't c the need to upgrade yet.
I am considering eventually acquiring the new 58f1.2 if and when it finally goes on sale though.. But I am also waiting to c what happens in terms of next gen xpro.

others could do it better…not a big difference in quality but certainly a difference in look.
to me images from the x100 look smoother, more rounded…from the xpro/x-e, images look crisper...

I've not yet compared the 2 lenses as I have not tried the 27 yet.
If the x100 was offered in a 27mm version I would choose it over the 23 (even better would be a 35mm version). I like a bit more reach.
That said I prefer the x100/s to all the other fuji cameras for the leaf shutter.
It's silent, efficient, and can sync flash at any speed.
So a word on the 23mm.
I don't know if I have an exemplary copy of the x100 or if they are all as good as the one I have.
It's amazingly sharp and reveals details superbly. As Joe indicates ^ the images do have a smooth sort of look to them... not particularly surgical as some of the images from the xpro can seem.
I suppose this is more from sensor... less pixel density sensor and bayer architecture are contributing more so than from the lens performance.
I used my X100 for a large job documenting and creating a marketing package for a Ranch in NW Montana in 2012. I brought me 5Dii, xpro1 w/18/35/60 and some M mounts, and other film cameras but... the x100 did most of the work.
Lots of hiking around for a few months as the weather/seasons changed the environment and scenery.
It was fantastic to have such great detail out to the corners of images from such a tiny little camera.... Highly recommend trying one if budget allows.

The X100 gave me a wonderful gift. It restored the joy of using a camera I experienced with film rangefinders like the Canonet QL-17.
In my experience the 27/2.8 Fujinon is better than the X-100 lens... mainly because the 27/2.8 is also sharp and it does not do this to bright, point-source lights.

Of course the 28/2.8 is a full stop slower. I will speculate the Xtrans sensor's newer technology reduces the 2.0 Fujinon's aperture advantage with regard to the analog signal-to-noise ratio each body/camera combination can deliver. However subject isolation may be easier with the 2.0 lens.

It's funny, but I've had the opposite experience. I don't test though, so it was mostly just a feeling.

A great walk around lens. Very sharp. I have even used it at events.
