Fuji announced their new GF670W at Photokina . . . and, no surprise, they did not announce its price. On my blog, I discuss the pricing history of the GF670 and speculate on the factors that may shape the as yet unannounced price of Fuji's new camera. I am very anxious to see this camera and the price. I love the smoothness of grey tones with MF. I would love to have one but need to get rid of some cameras and get a little cash together before buying. Interesting blog. Thanks!! - Jim

A digital folder from fuji would be super cool.
I love their unique take on cameras and the fact that they've kept on making medium format rangefinders.

I'd rather see them make more film cameras, not many companies left really making a difference in the film world, Fujifilm is one of them though.

Wide angle. That's nice. I can't/won't pay the asking price of the gf670, and I can't imagine that a wide version would be any cheaper.

Not surprising....

Not surprising....

Not a folder, though.

It wouldn't make sense to make a folder (and the attendant manufacturing cost) for a 55mm lens on mediium format. This camera will hopefully come in at a price that will include the savings of not having a bellows and folding mechanism.

Furthermore, I would not be surprised to see this camera not much thicker than the folded (closed) GF670, if that.

Here is the press release. It mentions that we all asked for a wide angle version of the GF670. Therefor I want be surprised if its the same folder but now with a wide angle lens. On the other hand if this lens requires less distantce to the film plane it might be fixed. Something I personally favor.

Given the price I rather go with a Mamiya 7II...

Hard to tell for sure, but in the press release photo it doesn't look like a folder, though possibly the lens may move in and out somewhat like a Mamiya 6? Didn't the 55mm Plaubel Makina wide camera still fold with a bellows?

My guess is it'll be a bit more expensive than the GF670 just because it's a wide angle version. Cost of production probably has little to do with the pricing of these cameras.

A wide-angle retractable lens ala 50mm on a Mamiya 6 would be sweet. Moreover, 6x7 capable as well -- the best of Mamiya 6 & 7 in one camera, albeit with a non-interchangeable lens. That's a trade-off I could live with. Affording it remains the insurmountable opportunity.

it might not be a folder, but the gf670w still has an advantage over the mamiya 7 and its 50mm: you don't have to use an accessory viewfinder. one mamiya 7 and two lenses is more compact than a gf670 and a gf670w, though. i think the gf670w will be particularly appealing to street shooters, and maybe landscapists who only use a 28mm-e lens.

They added a new photo of the camera and a price information.
Clear from this new Bessa IIIW illustration that the lens neither folds nor retracts. Looks nice though! Two strap lugs on the left; perhaps two on the right as well...

Great to see such a camera being released, even if it is more an extension of the previous 670 than a completely new camera.

My personal preference is for a fully mechanical version though, and hope this is something Cosina/ Fuji considers offering. Twinned with an even better build quality, these two facets would be the clincher for me to purchase one, even if it were more expensive than at present.

From the aspect and the lens specifications, it looks like a Biogon type design, therefore the distance of the rear element to film plane will be small and probably not worth the hassle of retracting/collapsing. A SWC with a rangefinder - hmm, that could be really nice !
