Full frame anyone?

I'm sure we'll see it... question is "when" not "if" but I'm betting on more than a year out.

Look how long it has taken Fuji to fill all the backorders for the present offerings. Although this does not seem to be the "normal" camera firm (2 years to update), they, too, have some limits in how fast they can change all their systems and marketing etc.

How many xe1 accessories do you have on order? How many xp1 accessories?

At some point (would think now) they need a little digestion of what is on the plate.

Just my thoughts - they probably are already ramping up FF :)

Too much dust has been raised these days however I wonder if we will ever see a FF interchangeable lens mirrorless compact with AF feature, due to:

- FF-AF lenses are destined to be far larger than the manual FF lenses; imagine a 50/1.4 lens on your dream body with the size (at least the diameter) of the Nikon 50/1.4G.. Take a look at the 35/2 Sonnar on the XR1 and compare its size to your Summicron 35/2...(Horrible..)

- To move larger and heavier lens groups more powerful micromotors are needed, therefore larger battery sizes.

- The APS-C sensor has approached the resolution power and hi-ISO characteristics of the hi-end FF sensors. Next year the gap will be smaller.

And for the conventional lenses (manual focus) I do not believe that any of the camera manufacturers would even consider to introduce a body with a FF sensor..

Leica emphatically denied they were going full frame nearly right up until the point they announced the M9.

No one can say what's going on in the background at Fuji.

Sony are a classic example ... "We've made this very nice little RX100 point and shoot for you ... oh and by the way here's the full frame version we'll be releasing in a couple of months!"

And nikon with the d3/d700 too!

I would suppose a full frame X mount camera won't be around for at least another 2-3 years if at all...

Except that it was pretty clear that Fuji's little 18/f2.8 or 35/f1.4 were no full frame lenses to begin with. The whole bit was pure speculation. They're too invested into an APS system now to do a whole backflip.

The main interesting thing is what will happen with the Sony E-mount camcorders and their lens mount whose throat seems smaller than the sensor.

The X Pro1 is in the perfect sweet spot for me. IQ, size, weight, VF, etc.
Not too big, not too small, just right.

I sold my FF D700. Too big, too heavy, no better IQ.

As I've said in other threads like this one, I think it's doubtful that Fuji will just "follow the crowd" into full frame. Their strategy has been to offer unique features over direct competition with Canon / Nikon. That being said, I'm sure they have an R&D team that's looking into a FF X-Trans sensor. Will that turn into a product? Would they keep the X-Trans layout? Who knows.

If you read the reviews of the X-Pro, you'll see very few complaints about image quality and resolution and many more complaints about other problems (focusing, firmware idiosyncrasies). I expect their next high-end release will focus on those issues instead of a format switch (though what do I know? ).
