Further to recent discussions, just saw in the UK edition of AP (16 Feb) that M8's seems likely to be have a full-frame upgrade in the near future.
This is very interesting, as it means that Leica will continue to offer "upgrades" to the chassis of existing M8s.
How about doing so as detachable backs for the analog M's as well- the cost could be similar to the M8 upgrdes, and demand would be quite strong IMHO.

I would be able to live with that- however, still believe that "upgrde backs" for M's would also offer a very nice degree of flexibility-particularly as the camera configuration could be switched by changing backs, unlike the M8 where the change is (relatively) permanent

I suspect the distance from the sensor surface to the front of the package/filter stack is greater than the distance between the film guide rails and the rear of the shutter. In addition the sensor would have to be severely cropped in order for it's package to fit in the film gate - even then the package may be too big to fit.FX trading said:I would be able to live with that- however, still believe that "upgrde backs" for M's would also offer a very nice degree of flexibility-particularly as the camera configuration could be switched by changing backs, unlike the M8 where the change is (relatively) permanent

Can't see that.
1. How would the camera and back communicate? Shutter speed and release for example?
2. Where would the memory card go?
3. Where would the battery go?
4. And the real killer - it would be thicker than the existing back (IMO) - where would us left-eyed shooters put our noses?

Bill
