Neat article. Thanks, Chris. Stanley Kubrick is one of my favorite artists and he has a reputation for being very tough on actors. From his article, Mr. Modine didn't seem to see things that way.

I also thought Modine's photos were pretty good, espcially the shot of Adam Baldwin.

Thanks for the link!
The photos are OK to good, I think.(at least the ones on the site) What I found more interesting was Mr. Modines views about the digital/film thing:
" It should be like learning to speak a new language. Digital should have its own language. Obviously try to use as much information as you can, as with a piece of negative. But it’s a different language and rather than try to make it into film, let it be digital, let it be what it is."

allow me to possibly revive this old thread by saying that my wife got this book for me for christmas and i'm really enjoying it.

matthew modine shot candids and some behind-the-scenes images with an old rolleicord whil he was filming "full metal jacket".

definitely worth picking up if you're a kubrik and/or "full metal jacket fan".

I use way to many quotes from FMJ in my everyday life. The story about how Emry got the DI roll is interesting too.

Vision Quest was also an interesting movie he made. Nver knew he could speak so lucidly about photography.
