Fun Pentax rumor at DPReview and Pentax Forums

Interesting, but I believe it would be largely rejected by the mass market (consumers). So interesting but economically (in terms of profit) not viable.

I might be interested in a lower-cost full-frame product from Pentax. I have the K10D and find it to be an overall excellent product.

For what it's worth, the forums on DPReview seem to degenerate into infantile name-calling after about 10 posts. I believe ZERO of the rumors that are passed there -- while acknowledging that some turn out to be true. That could be representative of the "infinity monkeys and infinite typewriters" theory.

Well, rumors are fun, they spark the imagination...I don't understand why people get all bent out of shape, calling bull**** on each other and threating to have people kicked off the board. I mean, if no cameras or camera products were even manufactured again, starting now, we would still have more than enough to produce all the images we wanted for the rest of our lives. So who cares if it's all just wild rumor?

As for stitching, cropping, etc., obviously it's simple to do that, but I like the idea of getting to frame, compose, and shoot all in square-frame, like on MF or on my little Robot. A different way of working, and thinking.

At least the rumor-mongers should get their math right:

The diagonal of an APS-C sensor is 28mm. The diagonal of a 23.5 square is 33mm. (Please see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pythagorean_theorem ).

In other words, the image circle of current DA lenses wouldn't cover the square format, and would show on vignetting at the corners.

So it would be the digital equivalent of a Holga? 😉
