Fund Raising for Al Kaplan: Buy a Tee-Shirt, the proceeds will go to all Al

Already retracted - will wait for the PayPal account (and bank account) to be updated before sending the funds to the gmail address :)

I also ordered a shirt via the Cafe Press link.

Cheers,
Dave

What now?

What now?

It's been a little while since anyone has posted to this thread. I think it's time that we wind things up and pass the funds onto Al's kids. I know the digitalintrigue (Robert) has been kind enough to manage the PayPal account on behalf of all those who donated and that he'd like to wind this up. So...

If anyone who made a contribution to the fund has any thoughts, ideas or objections (rants, delusions (dilutions, too), etc.???), speak up now so that we can give Robert the go-ahead to pass the money to the Kaplan family. See earlier in this thread for Jonathan Kaplan's ideas.

I personally think we should let the family decide to do what they wish with the funds, since that was the intent we had before Al passed away and they know best what they need and what he might have wished. I will certainly suggest that, if they opt to make a donation somewhere, they do it "in the name of Al's many friends at Rangefinder Forum." It's not a lot of money, but I know from my little contact with Jonathan that they family is touched and appreciative.

Thanks to everyone who joined in on this effort with ideas, money, etc. and to Robert for being good enough to play banker for us. If you're still in a giving mood, there's plenty of opportunities to contribute to some trusted organizations helping out in Haiti.

I'm proud to be on a forum with so many good, kind souls (not mention great photographers and an occasional curmudgeon or two ... miss ya, Al).

Rob

Well it took 19 days - lost in the custom's black-hole at Heathrow airport - but here's mine on the darkroom bench. Maybe we should all don them and take a self-portrait on the anniversary this year.

Hi guys

Has the collection been passed over yet?
If not then just to say I agree with the ideas expressed above by robklurfield
(eclipse).

I am troubled by an unrelated -- nothing to do with fund raising -- matter and can't think of another place to say this. On 19 Jan I posted two A.K. mugs: one to Robert Jagitsch and the other to Jonathan Kaplan. Neither has spoken of getting his mug, which would be all right: but neither has answered my message of enquiry either.

Received this evening from Al's son Jonathan:

Hi Rob,

I hope you are well. I wanted to check-in with you regarding the money
collected for my father by folks on RFF. Our family has established a
scholarship for photography students in my father's honor at Barry
University in Miami Shores. If the forum is agreement, we would
appreciate that the money collected so far be directed to Barry for
the scholarship. Additionally, I have posted information on my
father's blog about the scholarship and ways to contribute. I would
appreciate if you could alert people on RFF to this opportunity to
honor my father's memory.

Thank you again for all of your help and concern for my father.

All the best,
Jonathan Kaplan

IF ANYONE has any objections, speak now or forever hold your peace.

Rob, this is excellent news, and I hope that a substantial sum will be put together.

Incidentally, Jonathan K. and Robert J. wrote to say that they had received their mugs. I thank those who helped in this.

Received my Al Kaplan Mug today. Pity I couldn't put on it a picture of Al smoking a bidi and holding his own Leica Mug.

I'll gladly send you one of those that I have people in India make for me (illustrated in post 154 and different from those made in the US): but I'll want my expenses to be met and you'll need to send money separately to the Paypal account which digitalintrigue opened, or else to Barry University.

Apparently the Al Kaplan items are still available,
but according to his son,
he does not know where the funds generated for this items is going to.
