I have found major amounts of fungus in a cabinet where I had a couple cameras and I'm looking for advice to deal with it.

These are my old Nikon Fs. One had the finder on the camera... it's powdery white on the leatherette.

The other one I think I had the prism off. I def had one prism in a separate box. I had a silica gel pack with it but so much for that. You can see what I think is fungus spreading on the bottom glass.

Without question, the best thing I've ever tried is moisturizing hand cream. Apply it generously, wait a few minutes, and remove, then clean the glass normally. If the fungus has etched the glass or damaged the coating you'll have to live with it, but at least you'll get the fungus itself out.

Interesting. I will give it a shot. I expect it will be tough to clean, but it it works...

I also fear of course that the fungus is likely inside so I will not be able to clean it.

I was also thinking of a mild bleach solution of course, since it kills fungus.... for the leatherette.

I presume you realise that silica gel only absorbs moisture up to it's capacity and after that is ineffective unless regenerated by drying out in an oven (usually overnight?
In other words you can't just put it in and forget about it. Most good silica gel products indicate whether they need regeneration by the colour changing. It's light blue when useable and gradually turns a pinkish brown as it absorbs moisture.

It would be ineresting to know which area you live in and what where the weather conditions in past weeks. Do you use air conditioning ?
