Future of Mamiya 6 & 7 Cameras?

A couple of weeks ago, I sent an email to Mamiya, trying to find out if Mamiya 6 & 7 cameras were being repaired. I later got an email back from the MACgroupUS.com stating that they could repair them. Then - - -

I received the following email today (March 5th, 2014), regarding Mamiya 6 & 7 repairs:

As of March 21st. We are no longer accepting Mamiya repairs, and cannot guarantee parts will be available for your repair . If you send it in ASAP, we can get is assessed for you. I think that would be your best bet. Our technician has been repairing these cameras forever and knows them well. If you are inquiring about future service , then the answer is no. Does this mark the decline of Mamiya 6 & 7 Cameras?

There seems to be nothing unique about repairing a Mamiya 6 or 7. It is a task that any competent repairman can do. It may be that some parts will be a challenge to find but there seems to be donor cameras out there for just about every make and model.

I wonder why they are no longer doing service on the future for these? It would be interesting to find out more- if it's them, or Mamiya in Japan that is the root cause for that decision. I've had great luck with MACgroup getting parts for DIY Mamiya service, parts for RZ67 stuff and Mamiya 7 stuff. They are also very helpful in sending parts diagrams and service manual pages via email. It would be a shame if the parts and service for Mamiya cameras dried up.

I heard this from the Mamiya service department just now, as I had occasion to be in touch with them to get a part for a Mamiya 7. Here's what they have to say about it:

"We will no longer be supporting Mamiya products as of
March 21, as the company has decided to self-distribute. I am uncertain if they will Continue manufacturing these parts, in the future you can contact them through www.mamiyaleaf.com after the date."

This is a real bummer, as MACgroup was great about parts and service, I have used them on several occasions and always had great results. Hopefully Mamiya will still make and supply spare parts for these cameras going into the future.

It need not be bad if Mamiya take it into their own hands - the Mamiya run German service is (and was) the best Mamiya service in Europe, much better than in the countries where they handed off repairs to some third party company.

Agreed, it could be just as good - it remains to be seen. I am not encouraged by the mamiyaleaf website though, they don't seem to have much if any info online about the Mamiya 7 or RZ67 gear.

Hopefully the supply of parts does not dry up!
 
Actually, speaking to this topic, where could one source replacement parts for a 7? I just recently got one and it is missing the cap on the winding lever, I covered the opening with gaffers tape for now, but I would like to get the actual part that's missing.

Any recommendations?
 
I just did and they told me they're no longer servicing Mamiya cameras. Phase One is handling everything from here on out so one can only assume P1 now owns Mamiya completely.

I had my 7 CLA'ed there last year. They installed the 7II viewfinder upgrade at the same time; terrific service, and reasonably priced.
 
I sold a Mamiya 7II kit a few years back because I was concerned about having money tied up in a camera that could become a brick and have no ability to repair it. Plus, I was using it handheld which negated the advantage of the great glass.

I am trying to get to all mechanical cameras. I have my MPs, which can be used even if the meters ever die (although Leica is supposed to have parts for 30 years after they discontinue the product - we'll see!). And then I have an Ebony. Can't part with my Nikon F6.

I'm sorry but this is just a ridiculous comment. Great glass is negated by hand holding the camera? Suuuuuuuuure.
