FYI -- forum updates

I don't mind the “who read this thread” change, but is it readers from the starting post or recent readers? For long running threads it could get quite large and at that point kind of meaningless. If I have added something recently it is nice to know if it has been read and by how many. For instance, I posted in the W/NW double exposure recently and it shows 11 readers. I am sure that many more looked at the first pages before my post over the years, and in fact it shows 3K views total. I find the 11 number useful but am not sure what it encompasses or means.
I’m assuming the count begins from when the add-on software was installed, but I’ll check on that.

Forced me to reset everything this morning from themes to saying "no, I don't want push notifications for ANYTHING" once again.

As Darthfeeble said, the changes are getting annoying and I've yet to see anything that for me is a net positive. Ever since the attachment changes it's been a major bear to post anything here.

Much of the improvements are behind the scenes, for full compatibility with new browsers and operating systems and as old software is deprecated sometimes these changes are necessary even if they are annoying. As usual we can't make everyone happy, we do appreciate the feedback but this site is free and run by volunteers.

When the site was using ancient vbulletin it became almost unusable, necessitating a move to Xenforo in 2023 which was absolutely required. The vbulletin software was over a decade out of date. That conversion was a small disaster -- without volunteers jumping and devoting literally hundreds of hours, more than likely everyone would have left and the site would be dead. So smaller incremental software updates will be the norm, it's been a little over two years since the last.

So complain if you wish; others here are thankful!
