Hmmmmm... No evf or ovf.. Just LCD. Maybe smaller.. Rumored price 799..

Could this be Fuji's answer to Ricoh grd and Coolpix A? Paired w/ the 27 pancake? If true this probably puts it more in the size of Ricoh gxr w/ a12 28 module. Not a pants pocket camera anymore unless u got big pockets. Or closer in size to m43 camera like gf1 w/ 20 pancake.

Man 27 pancake in a small enough package to fit in my jeans pocket would be great...but if rumor is true, this is going to e big pocket size instead.

Plus the 27 pancake rumor update is announced around June - July time frame. So maybe this lens was always intended to be paired w/ the xm-1.

An interesting side comment from the fuji rumor from a camera salesman who is uses Fuji. Olympus pen and Sony Nex are this guys biggest sellers. One Fuji x setup for every 10 of the other. Others are in worst state of affairs.

Whether anyone here would purchase this entry camera is largely irrelevant, we’re already X users, but theres an awful lot of shooters out there who aren’t. Fuji has be earning plenty of critical acclaim but their success is in sales not glowing reviews.

I work in camera retail, for every 1 person I manage to pair up with a new X camera I see 10 more walk out with a NEX or Pen (I can’t even give away Panny’s, EOS M’s or Nikon 1′s mind you). Price is a huge barrier, everyone loves the look of them but can’t stretch the $$$ quite. At around $800 in a single lens kit, I believe I could put plenty of these entry Fuji’s in the hands of happy buyers.

(Although it pains me to say, Fuji will likely need to put a direct video button on the body if its to appeal to the target market… ugh. Sad days indeed)
 
Consider it a NEX-3/5 equivalent.

Surely not "Fuji's answer to Ricoh grd and Coolpix A", as they are in completely different segments.

I said it thinking this is as close as Fuji may get..given their other product lines.

Latest update on the new entry level Fuji. After reading the new rumor.... Especially the mention again about the 550 target price.. I wonder if sales feedback from sales people like this created this camera model?

CIBA just released their league tables that show the top selling mirrorless/DSLRs from 2012 - neither the XP1 nor X-E1 were on the list. That might be a factor as well.

I am sure Fuji has managed their R&D across the X platform well enough that they earn pretty decent margins, but I am sure they would like to say they have a "best selling" camera too.
 
This body is what I'm waiting for, hopefully it will be fitted with a 900k+ pixels external screen. Smaller and cheaper than the XE-1, and most importantly will be the occasion to invest in those nice, aperture ring fitted Fuji lenses.

I don't think Fuji is and should be paying too much attention to overall (i.e. including cheap entry-level cameras) rankings - given that, up to now, they've positioned themselves within a niche market.

Of course that'll change once they release the "XM-1", still keeping in mind that their lenses are twice as expensive as the NEX or m43 ones.
 
In most cases Paul I would agree w/ u. Fuji has been fairly resistant to this trend. They may do their own version of this at the entry level to get people who may be resistant to a price barrier at least try the x mount system w/ hope of getting eventually hooked on their xp1/xe1 type products, just as the x100 series was a way of bringing interet to the xp/xe series.

i think the rear lcd version makes sense...after all, the sony rx100 is like that and most folks love it.
depending on size it might make someone like me switch over to the fuji...keeping it all in the family, so to speak.
 
I dont mean to hijack this XM1 thread but why not simply build a better mousetrap by throwing a full frame sensor with the new focussing options in the X100s into an XP/XE body, add a 1-2k price premium and make in roads into Leica's monopoly? Heck, introduce it with one or two dedicated primes. and show us a lens roadmap.
 
Cost and possibility of ff set of lenses, if current lenses cannot handle the bigger image circle. Xm is a targeted entry level. People wanting a back to basics camera, a retro rf type of look and a x tran sensor may already be a niche market.. Add ff and x tran is going to e a more limited one.

Getting people into the entry level via xm1 maybe a better return on investment..

I guess they are trying to offer somethng at all the accessible price points. I am just not convinced that $300 is a huge barrier for someone who wants to go retro to give up an XE1 but still care enough about the Xtrans sensor to stay away from an Olympus EP style body.

At this price point, you get plenty of people who know nothing about cameras... they are not thinking about x-trans. They may not even know what a sensor is. A common mistake is to think as a photographer... many people buy cameras without knowing basic specs.
 
Yep price matters. Most will ask salesperson to recommend something in a price range, unless they have done their own investigation. But we are talking about a camera plus lens kit rumored to be 550 though. Isn't that slightly lower then the "entry level dslr" from conikon?

Hi Gary,
Thats a very attractive price - especially with lens. My gut feeling is that a newbie or someone upgrading from a p&s camera would want a zoom lens (around 18-55) rather than a pancake 27mm type lens. Curious to see what Fuji puts on the table.

It will be interesting to c if that rumored 550 comes close to reality. They may offer multiple kit combo's would be my guess, w/ the pancake 27 being the cheapest.

Well, I hope you are right Gary and the pancake ends up being cheap. So far, nothing Fuji has made has been under $600. I know historically pancakes are cheap though...
