ok just got it in the mail today. Battery? has a varta V 625 U in it. Meter / meter is working in the A setting and moves with shutter speeds. does it not work in manual setting? just need to do the light seals. John
Why not just take a reading in A mode and then change the aperture and shutter to any reciprocal (if meter says f8 @ 60, but you want less depth of field, then use f2.8 @ 500)? Another cool trick with the Canonet is that if you want to expose for something in particular, say shadows, you can point the camera at that and slightly squeeze the shutter release and it will hold that exposure when you compose.
I have been using mine with a spot meter for some wedding work recently (nice and quiet so I don't get ejected from the church or registry office). Meter of the lit side of the face and open up a stop to give a Zone VI exposure (caucasian skin). Works well and avoids problems with the built in meter getting fooled by bright light sources in the scene.
