G1 Manual Focus Knob

I recently aquired a Demo G1, and I was wondering about the integrity
of the manual focus knob on the top of the camera. The manual focus
knob on the G1 I have, has axial movement when it is indexed to the AF
position. In other words when it is locked you can actually rotate the
knob about 1/32 from side to side.

And that's how many degrees, Mike? Is it like 10 degrees?

If the AF works, using the manual focus will be so seldom needed that I wouldn't bother with it.

Let me explain, With regards to the previous post.
I have about 2 more days before I have to send this camera back to B&H according to their return policy. I have had pictures processed and everything seems to be in order with exposure, autofocus, film loading, rewind, flash, various shutter speed selected. The viewfinder is clear, no scratches that I can see. The only thing that has me concerned is the play in the manual focus knob. I'm not talking about the almost zero resistance when actually turning the knob to manualy select the distance to focus but, when the knob is locked down in the AF position there is apparent rotational play (rotating the knob clockwise and counter clockwise ) and I'm guessing something in th area of maybe 1/32 or a tad less.

I was told these camera's were Demo's and they are, but boy, the one I recieved seems to have been demo'd quite a bit lots of bright marks, wear, no dents, no dings, it does have a sticker on the bottom with print stating they are infact demo's and never owned, is this kinda like buying a rental car. Anyway I'm sure my concerns about the focus knob are overkill but I'd rather ask now then find out later that it's not good. Any info greatly appreciated this camera looks like it will lots of fun.:D or :bang:

Good question, well if I guesstimate correctly it's more like 5 degrees CC and 3-4 CW. Maybe at one time in it's life, the knob was attempted to be turned without unlocking it and causing additional slop in the lock
 
it is like buying buying a rental car!
i used to work part time in a camera store and the staff is usually harder on the demos than the customers.

the big question is, what kind of warranty do you get with the camera?
as long as it's the same as a new in box warranty, i think you'd be ok.

The best thing you can do is contact Kyocera. You can probably e-mail them and be sure they'll reply.

I too bought a used G1. Mine... really shows some use, but it's also in decent shape. For you to have an idea, I paid $435 for the body and a Planar 45/2 lens, shipping included. It came with a very scribbled-on manual, so I contacted Kyocera for a new copy. They replied quickly to my message with instructions about how to get it.

So, texbaz, if you're concerned about this play (I checked mine, the manual focus knob is very firm), write them a note. If I'm able to find the address I'll send it to you in a PM.

However, if the exposure, loading and AF are working well... I really wouldn't worry.
 
Just checked both of my G1s. Not much play at all in either - just a wee bit, but not enough for the AF symbol to come out of line with the mark. But like Solarres says, if the AF is working I wouldn't worry about it to much.

These Demo's come with a 1 yr warranty from Kyocera, so what the heck, in 1year if the knob develops a greater amount of play off to Kyocera it will go.And when the warranty runs out, I read some where that to get the camera completly gone over is about 175.00 .

Thanks for checking. According to your reply there might be an acceptable tolerance in this area, My AF mark still stays fairly in-line with the index mark also.

When I received the camera the warranty paper work indicated it had a 3 year warranty, so I e-mailed Kyocera asking them about it . They replied by saying regardless of what was on the paper the camera only has a 1 year warranty, I had not noticed the focus knob at that time. I will E-mail them again and ask about the knob play good idea.
 
It was suggested I contact Kyocera via E-Mail, instead I found a 1-800 number to Kyocera, I finally was able to talk to a live body at Kyocera today. I spoke to Nick. I asked about the tolerance in the Manual focus knob, He said that what I described was OK. So, now to have some fun with it. All I need now a Canon 5000F scanner(in my budget).
