G2 losing power

Hello all,

My G2 has lost power a few times recently - dead viewfinder with the power turned on and new batteries. Turning it off and back on has solved it. Has anyone seen this? Am I in for big problems?

I don't know... maybe not the same problem but it happened on my G1 once: no response from the machine when I depressed the shutter release, although the power was on. Some how it worked later after at least dozens times of switching off & on. 😕 Happened just once, though.

By the way, I noticed that batteries jus don't last long in my G1... but I guess it's nothing new, as some other users have mentioned about the "battery eater".

Y'know, I had the same kind of behavior with my Fuji GA645 on a vacaiton trip. Thought it was dead for the duration. Popped batteries in and out, cleaned terminals, switched on and off repeatedly... nothing! But it turned out it was at the end of a roll of film and I hadn't heard it wind on through. 😀

There was a problem on battery operated Contax SLRs one, at least with the 167MT. Batteries where depleted very fast due to a defective capacitor.
Something like this can be the reason for the battery eating G1.

I have aprox. 10 rolls through my very used G1 and the batteries are still fine, with my G2 I get more than 20 rolls per set of batteries.

If everything else fails, get the "bad weather kit" and shoot with AA size NiMH rechargeables, works fine for me 🙂

Ack, 20 rolls on a single set of batteries ?? I must be too used to manual cameras... that sounds like a terrible rate of depletion to me! And I just got a G2... (my first AF camera since the F80....).

Jrong, I can't tell for sure since I play a lot without film in the camera. Still working on my AF technique and everytime I read something here I deplete batteries afterwards 🙂

The thumb focusing with the back focusing button for example or training to judge focusing by listening to the AF sounds. I have this camera for nearly four years and there are still possibilities to be explored I haven't thought about.

October 2004 in Cuba I brought two spare batteries just in case, I didn't know how much I had shot on the old batteries, and didn't need them.

I've used that set of batteries from january 2005 to august and I shot the 10 rolls Tri-X which where delivered after my vacation, 5 rolls of Sensia 100, 5 rolls Tura Pro 400, 2 rolls FP4 and maybe 3 or 4 rolls of cheap Agfa colour film with this set of batteries. Then I replaced them while they were still working and depleted them testing a newly aquired and very used G1.

I once had a pair of Panasonic batteries from Walmart which died after less than 20 rolls. Now I use Ansmann branded batteries I buy via eBay for some 2.50 to 3 Euro a piece. I bought 6 last year in august, one set is in the G1 and the second in the TLA200 flash, the third is still in my bag and the G2 runs on my spare set from 2004 🙂

I've never had this problem in my G2s. It could be the batteries. Just because they are "new", doesn't really mean that they are. I make sure I buy batteries from a place I know that moves them, not a local drug store or such, where they might be sitting around for quite some time.
