Hello

I just purchased a G2 in nearly mint condition and a Sonnar 90mm even better.

I'm a little concerned about a noise an vibration when I hold the camera vertically. In this situation, if the moving part of the lens does a long travel (for example, focusing a very close object), there are a noise and vibration.

It seems like the this moving part is not properly guided inside the barrel. I've tried another couple of lenses in the store (a different Sonnar and a 45mm Planar) and, more or less, there are always noise and vibration.

The noise disappear if I hold the camera horizontally or if I put my finger in the edge of the lens as support when it is focusing.

It's that normal? Thank you

Sounds quite similar to my lens. I have it for several years on a G1 and it always did it, no problem so far. I stopped worrying some time ago.

I bought a Contax G1 with 28mm, 45mm and 90mm lenses. These were very early production. I had the G1 updated and bought a Contax G2 also. I then added the 21mm and 35mm lenses. I still haver the outfit but the Contax G1 went in for repairs due to a short and Contax replaced it with a new camera. The 45mm and 90mm lenses both had vertical grinding problems due to alignment problems and were fixed under warranty. The grinding you are hearing is not normal and the lenses should be looked at by a repair man or woman.
