I've searched the forum(s) and Googl'd but found no answer. Has anyone tried the data imprinting feature of the GA645 with IR film? Will the data imprinting mechanism fog IR film? I'd hate to waste a roll just to find out.

TIA.

The data imprinting will, absolutely - it fogs non-IR film to the point that I can even read letters and numbers, and it ought to do the same to IR... ;-)

I'd be more concerned about IR fogging thanks to the film start detection/barcode reader, which uses a IR diode. But I have no idea whether that actually is in action after finding the film start adhesive strip. And many IR diodes emit wavelengths way outside the sensitivity of the current crop of IR films (which don't extend much beyond visible). But I haven't tried it yet - the AF can't adjust for IR and manual focusing is a mess, so that it would hardly be my primary choice for an IR camera.

Agree with Sevo. Pick up an old TLR for IR use so you can still see what you're doing. You should be able to find a serviceable one for less than $200.

I was afraid of that... I was contemplating on turning off the imprinting function but I guess it would not be worth the risks. I do have severl Zeiss folders I can use and will prolly tape the red filter windows just to be safe.

Thanks again.
