The Gaf Memo 35EE is a slightly updated version of the venerable Konica C35 Automatic (also sold as the Chinon 35EE). Differences from the Konica include a new placement for the ASA speed selector, moved from the inside of the lens front to a thin ring on the outside edge of the lens barrel, with the speed now displayed in a small cutout on top of the lens. While this makes it easier to set the meter (and you are less likely to smudge the lens while doing so), the distance scale is now offset to the one o'clock position. The frame counter is now incorporated in the advance lever, and the battery cover is now metal instead of the soft plastic that Konica used, which is a great improvement. What is not an improvement, however, is the decision to not put a focus tab on the lens. Focus can be a little fiddly, as one's fingers now have a tendency to block the rangefinder window. The Chinon Chinonex 38mm 1:2.7-22 seems every bit as sharp as the Konica Hexanon equivalent. All in all, this is a very good budget rangefinder that produces quite good results.

Mike,
Another great find ! does'nt Vivitar make a version of this camera as well ?

I think that the Vivitar 35EE would be a clone of this, while the 35ES is the equivalent of the Konica Auto S3. They were also sold as Mamiya, Cosina, Revue, Prinz, and Argus cameras.

Thank you, Phil. It took me forever to finish that roll of Portra, its been in the camera since mid-November. Finally had a little non-arctic weather this afternoon, so I shot the last ten frames in my back yard so I could get the roll processed before I forgot what was on it.
