Stephen has asked for a gallery upgrade to match the latest version. It will take some time due to the changes between what RFF has and what has been updated on the newer code. Having said that, Some features will be lost and some will be added. Have a look at www.zeissimages.com and browse the features and photos , play with the settings under the gear icon and chime back what you think could be added or removed for the version going into rff since this will be a one time deal of changes going in.

Hi Jorge

Thank you for keeping us posted.
The gallery has evolved nicely and I'm sure more good things are to come. Maybe you're not looking for requests .... i would like to make one anyway. Hope you don't mind.

I hope you retain the ability to upload from a URL. Maybe consider Flickr's standard re-sizes.
They jump from 1024 up to 1600 on the long side.
It would be great to be able to load 1600's when an image is best to view large.
I know Flickr is not the only game but it does seem the most popular.

File size is controlled by Stephen as a setting. That does not require software update.

I just had a tour of the Zeissimages gallery, and it includes some attractive sorting options-- by member, by orientation, by whether the image is film, by lens (all Zeiss), etc.

One concern: The EXIF option appears more basic/less robust for user input than RFF. I for one would miss being able to enter filmtype/iso, for instance, with its enabling corollary (being able to search images by filmtype). I'd love to have those user-options carried over, even if they're more hidden to ease navigation and to improve real estate for the image.

And a second concern: the Zeissimages implementation of comments and likes seems cluttered/redundant in one way: if you sort by "all comments," you also see all the likes too, with the message, "A 'Like' on a photo counts as a comment even if no written comment was entered" --which quickly gets tiresome to reread, and which tends to bury the real comments. The RFF gallery has a good culture of commentary; it would be a pity to bury the comments and critique with auto-generated text about likes.

Mainly though: Thanks for taking care of this, Jorge.

I struggle with on-line photo galleries.
In fact I stopped viewing RFF gallery back in June. Cold turkey withdrawal because I can't figure out how to react intelligently to so many pictures.
The one thing that works for me is a button that leaves a footnote "daveleo likes this". Or a list of names who hit the "like" button.

Not just a "like", but it drops my name on it.
One bar at the bottom would say "xxx, yyy, zzz, daveleo , abc ..... liked this"
I don't have to explain why I like it; the procedure is not anonymous; I don't have to type "I like this" 10 times a visit. If the photographer really needs to ask me "why", PM me and we can go back and forth on it privately.

This is not being lazy.
It's being conflicted about how to comment on so many many pictures.

The Zeiss gallery seems simplistic. I like the current one better. I can see more pictures at once and space is not wasted with large titles.

did you play with the settings under the gear ?

you can select the number of pictures to display, you can switch the titles on and off and you can switch between showing thumbs or mediums.

The full exif editing is there. You just have to be logged in to see it. Furthermore if you click on even more exif data you get everything in the file.

Likes can be done with a single class and it says your name.

Comments and likes can be separated. As it has been added.

For example look at

http://www.zeissimages.com/todayscomments.php?all ( NO LIKES INCLUDED )

Then when you drill down on a specific member

http://www.zeissimages.com/commentsfor.php?commentsfor=4 ( LIKE INCLUDED )

Or even

http://www.zeissimages.com/commentsby.php?commentsby=4 ( LIKE INCLUDED )

Thanks for clarifying this, Jorge. I had wondered whether there was a (membership) layer of info I wasn't seeing b/c I was just a tourist.

As for the "Like" function, the RFF gallery has it. It's a button beneath each image. If I press it, the image's comment section reads "Rhl-Oregon likes this picture!"

. . . . . .

Robert, I just tried that. Licked the "Like" and "submit buttons under an image.
My "like" does not show up under "today's comments" and I cannot see anything on the image's page that refers to comments or likes.

Here is the image URL:

Why, dang if you ain't right, Dave. No likes noted there--i tried adding mine as well..,no luck. I guess this is an example of the commentator's curse. Point out how the system has been working and it immediately goes snafu. Guess we'll just have to type LIKE or +++ or MeLeica until the new system makes everything better (as all new systems always do ;-))

not an issue on the new version.

On my phone there is no gear with options. Only option is background color at the bottom. Granted I was not signed in and have no reason to register.
