Well-known

This one just caught my eye in the random gallery.
Leica M2fan,
Really? It's an okay shot, but it's kind of empty... well, to each their own.
"I just want to crawl inside the picture and roll around." Wonderful reaction, Gary! 🙂Certainly a well-intended thread, and has its rightful place, but now we struggle with finding a common denominator amongst us for what makes a "classic" a "classic", in order to avoid some of the subjectivity.
Is it the particular composition? an emotion expressed? a decisive moment? perhaps we could write a Brief description of why we think the image we post is a "classic"?!
When i look at a photo I am very subjective, after all it either pleases or it doesn't. If it draws my interest that is enough for me, I like it. If it doesn't I pass on it and don't comment. I have found pictures here I would have never taken but they have been an inspiration to me. I say keep them coming!"I just want to crawl inside the picture and roll around." Wonderful reaction, Gary! 🙂
Do we need a common denominator though? How can we avoid being subjective when we look at an image? We're human! I alluded to emotion in my text accompanying graksi's pic and for me (but not necessarily anyone else) that's a fundamental requirement for something (pic, music, whatever) to speak to me. When I look at gian's shot of the girl in the forest I find a lot of distraction, especially the OOF on the left. But I look at her expression and especially her eyes and I am haunted.
One thing that I find very refreshing about these images so far is that many of them lack sharpness. That's a common denominator I suppose, but one that I like given all the thousands of words wasted on sharpness in camera forums...
No offense intended, but in this thread can we refrain from the "thanks for the mention" replies?
It gets kind of annoying after awhile to visit the newest post in the thread thinking someone has posted a new photo to look at but it's just a quick thanks.
Let's just assume that anyone mentioned is grateful.
I hope I don't come across as sounding mean or cynical! 😱
A great shot from telenous:

A shame Alkis doesn't seem to post anymore...
