That ain't right. 🙂 Nope, not fair at all. 🙂

Put it to good use! Share the results with those of us who remember using Kodachrome-II.

Thanks! I haven't had much chance to enjoy the gallery these past few weeks. Will post my list as soon as I can.

One night, back in 2004, I realized that I had a career and life defining project to do. I knew that I was not done shooting film...not by a long shot. When I learned of Kodachrome 25's demise, I freaked! I had learned how to shoot on that stuff at age 13.

So even though I was earning a paycheck with digital, I started planning "One last look at Our American Dream on Kodachrome". I spent years getting a whole Xpan kit, all the lenses, rebuilding my manual Nikon kit, collecting and buying Kodachrome 25 from anywhere I could find it. I also talked to Grant at Dwayne's and told him of my idea and asked him if I could put my tribute / documentary through his machine last....then he shuts the machine down and Kodachrome's history concludes with my work. He agreed.

So as long as Kodachrome is around, and no one really knows how long that will be...I will do my very best to show the world how the film is meant to look. Recently, I spent a week living in Pie Town New Mexico, one of the very first places that Kodachrome was realized as the new standard in photography.

One of the people in Russell Lee's photographs, "Pop" was still alive and kicking. I spent the day with him in another time and place.

So this is my life's work. It is who I am and I *will* leave something lasting and brilliant behind for future generations: One last look at America's Dream on Kodachrome.

In a world filled with digital fakery, nothing....and I mean *Nothing* feels as good as shooting Kodachrome.

The film?
Some of it is been donated. I got 70 rolls of frozen 2003 stock of KM-25 from a great guy in California a month ago. One night, while checking my ebay watch pages, I stumbled upon a batch of 100 rolls of Kodachrome with a buy it now of $100. I snatched it up. I shot a few random rolls and it looked great. The guy then proceeded to tell me about another 300 from the same batch. I got them at $1 a roll. Later, he told me of another batch of unboxed that was quite big in a crate in the same freezer. I tested some 12 random rolls and it too, looked great.
I just sent him $400 for $750 more rolls.

With the exception of needing some more 200, I am pretty much set. None of it will be sold, ever. I am just going to use it up. Can you imagine Kodachrome 25 on the Grand Canyon in the Hasselblad Xpan?

...The rest is history.........

"You are worthy, Grasshopper."

A noble plan indeed. Keep us advised.

Good luck!

This is a great plan, and I wish you success in achieving your set goals.
Maybe someone should have done similarly a project :

"Fujichrome Velvia 50: A Vibrant American Dream".

It is not as "American" as Kodachrome, of course, but Velvia 50 is gone too, and it was a great film.
