Gallery picks for the week ending 04/19/10

fotomeow, thanks for mentioning my photo. I'm always flattered to get mentioned here because there are so many really superb artists of all stripes all over RFF, pros and amateurs alike. I'm always grateful to capture some fleeting light in way that other people like. anyway, apologies to you great artists for having taken a few weeks away from commenting on gallery images. I actually thought I was overdoing it for a while there. between a heavy workload in my day job and the feeling it was time leave space for others, I took a much needed break. I take enough bad shots that anytime I see something of mine here, I'm surprised and delighted.

Wow - last week's picture harvest is quite impressive! So, it's quite easy to come up with more noteworthy pictures.

Here are my picks:

Thank you Tony and Richard. I really must learn how to contribute to this thread myself. Bit dim I`m afraid but Fotomeow has given me a kick up the arse.

What's with the tiptoeing around? You have an issue with Vince (for he's the only one that matches your description so far), stand up like a man and say so.

I don't see at all how being polite and saying thanks is a bad thing. Whether someone contributes photos to the thread or not has nothing to do with that.

True, I have not mentioned anyone this particular week -- have you in fact checked all the weeks that 'Gallery Picks' has existed or anywhere else on the Forum to determine whether I've ever acknowledged anyone else's photos or not? Is that the prerequisite for saying 'thanks' or being mentioned? Is it better if I didn't say thanks at all?

Tell you what -- I will try to make an effort to recognize other people's work for the next little while on the 'Gallery Picks' thread. I, in turn, will not post any more photos to the Gallery until I've done so. Will that make you happy?

I suggest you read both posts again, Vince, and then decide who's criticizing you, and who is defending you. It's really not that hard.

:eek:oh god, there I go again, stirring up trouble. I take it back if I ruffled anyone's feathers. I do appreciate the contributions members make on this forum, and the responsibility that members' show to actively participate and make RFF worthwhile for us all.

I'm fully aware that you were not criticizing me -- I did quote your comment only because the original comment by fotomeow did not call me out by name, so I think it's not too hard to figure out.

Back to the original point -- I will make more of an effort in this particular weekly thread to acknowledge people's work. I in turn will not upload any more photos to the Gallery for the time being, so that my work does not have the opportunity appear in the weekly thread. I think that will solve the problem, and I hope we can now move on.

I am grateful and happy to be mentioned sometimes; and all the pictures I particularly liked this week, have been pointed to already. Your criticism ( to the good and to the bad) is always appreciated, it helps a lot! Thanks again.

Sorry, but that simply doesn't fly. If you quote somebody else's post and then continue with "have you in fact checked," "tell you what" and "will that make you happy," then that "you" will be understood to refer to the person you're quoting.

If you don't see that, well maybe you are indeed "too full of yourself" as fotomeow said.

Thank you, Arjay for the notice.

Now, can anyone tell me if there is an explanation of how to post these pictures in case one wanted to pick some images for inclusion? I should know this. But, I don't.

This is what I do:
  • Open two tabs/windows, one for the gallery and one for the post you're writing
  • Right-click on the photo in the gallery
  • Select "Copy Image Location" -- this will put the URL of the image on your clipboard
  • Click the insert image icon (sunset behind green hills) in your post and paste the URL into the dialog that comes up
May not be the best way and it's indeed anything but obvious, but it works.

I like visiting this thread out of vanity and also to find some of the better images from other people during the week.

Thanks for picking mine once in a while.

But yes I am a selfish pig for not participating more, cataloging and stalking your photos, etc. The 2-3 times I've troubles myself to mention a photo they have been really, really awesome.

Sorry, I am what I am ;-) Oink Oink Oink
