I would right-click the image in the gallery, choose "Copy Image Location" which puts the image URL into your clipboard, then click the image button on the post editing page and hit Ctrl-V. Or you can paste an image in by just pasting the URL into your post, and surrounding it with

I'm placing them in the gallery so that they can be viewed for enjoyment as they represent a period of life and photography long gone.
