It's only Tuesday and I feel like I've missed the party rather than just being late! Unfortunately work is keeping me from spending much time on RFF the past couple of weeks but I did manage to check the gallery out a few times. As there has been such a great response I'll keep my Picks down to some that haven't been mentioned or at least mentioned too often.

Aldenfender - I liked the idea. Possibly, if I'm completely honest, because it subverts not just the world of beauty, modelling in the 'America's Next Top' type of modelling and the world built around this but it also subverts or attempts to subvert us and the way in which nude pictures and shots of young women may often get 100+ views whilst receiving no actual comments. However, this only had 19 views when I chose it so it blows my subversion idea out of the water....still like it though

Harrejesus - Its simply the symmetry of this shot that grabbed me even as a thumbnail, it runs like a river through this picture. The foot, cup, laptop, face and even picture (though slightly misaligned) repeat both tones and even form to some degree. Even the shiny table top reflects both the tone and form of the picture and laptop above it. Add to this the lamps that give balance and width to the picture and I think you've got a quietly accomplished shot that still allows the subject to be just that rather than being lost in an all too ordered world.
Italian landscape by
Luiman - Simply a beautiful landscape with an abundance of the fluffy stuff which allows the world below it to look just as tiny as it really is. Also, the light falling onto the tiny matchstick like wind turbines is both pretty and enlightening in so much as its another nod to scale.
Toluca Sunrise by
IsraelAlanis - I like the cold palette, the gentle mist and the cloud crown bestowed upon the trees. For me the quieter colours of this one won me over compared to the later shot.

Taylan - I'd recently spent some time looking through some of Taylan's work so recognised much of the excellent images when he posted them over the last week or so, this one was one that passed me by but I'm gals I saw it here. The strong diagonals running through this give it both a visual dynamism and a sense of a story (which may be utterly untrue and opens an interesting line of discussion in itself.) The huge brand names loom over the figures in a way that could be misread entirely or almost as scribbled names on an old group photo. Some great expressions and faces squeezed into a visually stimulating construction that I personally think has a bigger social documentary ethic to it than the mere frippery that I faff about with. I've been hugely impressed with Taylan's pictures.
Having said that about Taylan's pictures, my actual Pick of the week would go to StefanJozef and a picture I haven't included as I'm late for a job and this took much longer than anticipated :bang:...it has been included and posted earlier a few times I believe so a simple congratualtions on a stunning abstraction of landscape which was both beguiling and beautiful. Congrats to everyone else too, some great stuff coming out of Iceland too - I'll have to go back and search some stuff out.
