Gallery Picks for the Week Ending August 1 2011

Thank you very much for the mentions!

Here are my picks:

petronius - 2011-07-28_10
I could have easily added some more. What I like here are the deeper dark tones of the harsh background contrasted by the whites of the light feather. The black frame around the image is also very effective .

carterofmars - beachrays
This one I like for its overall mood, the glistening reflections in the water and the wet sand with its nice texture, the people supposedly enjoying themselves at the beach and last but not least the interesting sky with its rays.

jordanstarr- watching
I find this one is simply a witty, well done and well seen street photograph.
eye-graff-dog_walker.jpg

lynnb - rainy day #P1020748
I like reflections and here the mirror like qualities of the wet pavement are effectively used to convey the rainy theme. I find the composition is very balanced.

Here is my color pick:

zauhar
Full spectrum of colors here with nice shadows and projections. I also like the "abstract" qualities induced by the shadows and the architecture.

stillkicking. i liked the way the gradating light as the eye moved down the frame. and the woman at the bottom has lovely poise.

aldenfelder. i really liked this whole series, and this one most of all. the half-naked seem as if they past caring about being rained on. this is my favorite of the week. full of contradictory feelings.

brainwood. pretty, pretty tones. serene summer evening in a lovely green place.

moored.jpg

mlehrman. i'm a new yorker by upbrining, and i lived out in the direction of the 7 train for many years. i love the line and the vista, the crowd on the platform, and the bend in the tracks. i can hear the screeching of the wheels as the train makes that corner.

steve kessel. i give in to my base pictorialist temptations here. this is just pretty. sharp right on the flower, pastels everywhere else.

duncan b. could that cat be any bigger? he got a great moment on the girl's face, nicely focused on her face and clothes, pretty bokeh everywhere else. also, this is for frank and his love of cat pictures.

reala fan - The Summer Pond ...
Indeed, summer pond really deserves a thumbs up. I find that it has a quite otherworldly quality and the composition and treatment is simply good. Personally I am preferring the straight approach (mostly), but good is good.

Petronius

This one is also so cool. Against the light, long shadows, a pair of ducks and great processing. :)
