Gallery Picks for the week ending Feb 11, 2013
Gallery Picks is an opportunity for you to post a heads up to what you have seen during the past seven days at RFF that you like.
There's no membership requirement, no criteria (except past seven days), no voting, no limit to the number of photos mentioned, and everybody mentioned is a winner.

Anybody can start the thread on a Monday.

Anybody can join in, it's a community event!

OlliL posted this one at the beginning of the week.
I keep having another look!

It isn't quite symmetrical - maybe that's the attraction, and the 'brutal' simplicity.

Primrose Hill

Primrose Hill

Robert Hooberman.

I left a comment that this reminded me of some of the Lowry painting of 'matchstick' men. Not quite, but very subtle, nearly B&W, but not, with just those glimpses of colour.
And a lot to see in the picture.

Here my picks of the week :

Raytoei : Kelly with coffee

Photony Texas : Dallas Didactic IV

That's all for new. - jim

Thanks to Divewizard, Tigerphil, Angelo, and Jim for mentioning my photos. I've been away from this thread for a few weeks, nice to browse the great work in the Gallery again:

A powerful photo from Robklurfield: Pleading (No. 1). I would encourage you to read Rob's text about this image here http://www.rangefinderforum.com/rffgallery/showphoto.php?photoid=199468. Perhaps the empty place surrounded by a dark wall of trees symbolises the mental prison of the young man in the centre of the image, who is experiencing a psychotic incident. The police have arrived and are calmly talking to him, resulting in a peaceful resolution to what with less sympathetic handling could have been a very different, and tragic, outcome.

Richard Berter's Inside These Walls. I believe most parents can relate to times like this. Great shot.
U39751I1360153034.SEQ.2.jpg

Begona's Sorrow. The picture says it all.
med_U35029I1360184206.SEQ.0.jpg

another favourite from the past week: Photony Texas' Dallas Didactic IV. Wonderful abstract surrealism!
med_U25693I1360187574.SEQ.1.jpg

Divewizard's Breaking Storm and a Minus Tide at Iversen Cove. What I liked about this was the drama of the dramatically lit, sombre rocks and their contrast with the theatrical backdrop of the clouds and sky. It's also one of those images that would look equally good in b&w.
med_U40143I1360566768.SEQ.0.jpg

Semrich's Untitled. I liked the subject's warmth and humanity in this well composed environment portrait.
med_U5622I1360532330.SEQ.0.jpg

Raid's photo of Lina, asleep amidst the company and security of treasured childhood dolls. This is such a sweet picture.
med_U3565I1360531036.SEQ.0.jpg

Mudride's Söndag, a beautiful portrait of his wife
U30063I1360508874.SEQ.0.jpg

Kiev Ilegelac's Chwarak. This powerful portrait by Alex has a feeling of menace. What will we ever do if the iconography of cigarettes disappears?
med_U45453I1360450456.SEQ.0.jpg

Paulfish4570's Untitled. Paul's bit of eeriness for the week.
med_U35015I1360434730.SEQ.0.jpg

Luiman's Paris, 2013/02. I liked the moody atmospherics of the moon through the delicate tracery of the tree branches
med_U28407I1360404095.SEQ.0.jpg

Barwulf's Grain Elevator 14. Before long these historic structures will disappear forever. I liked the wisp of cloud apparently coming from the roof.
med_U29574I1360099274.SEQ.1.jpg

Tigerphil's White Gate, '13. The composition drew my attention, then the invitation to ignore the sign and wander down to that nice comfortable chair. Lovely tonality.
med_U34170I1360091163.SEQ.0.jpg

Koolzakukumba's Fin in flight - great timing!
med_U2306I1360057716.SEQ.0.jpg

Richard G's Metal #2. Nice to see Richard excelling in the long tradition of photographing metal chairs.

Shooting into the sun is difficult at best and this shot tames the sun and result in an excellent image,

A few of my picks. It's getting more difficult each week to pick ONLY a few, as there are ever more each go-round.

rinzlerb, who delighted me last week with several bovine portraits, adds to his oeuvre with this image of a lovely Scotch Highland cow who is trying to figure out a TLR. rinzlerb informed me that these little cattle grow to be 36-45 inches tall at the shoulder.

Broyler, capturing the magic of child's intense focus...
med_U36786I1360077887.SEQ.0.jpg

Tigerphil succeeded in igniting some long dormant memories of my own youth with this shot...

Doomster
med_U49069I1360092849.SEQ.0.jpg

Barnwulf. Jim's images of grain elevators brought to mind the work of the Bechers, known for their images of German water towers and industrial plants. Perhaps Jim has managed to catch a few these before they disappear....
