I enjoy Keith's portraiture but when I opened this thumbnail I wasn't prepared for the story which I found deeply moving. I've reproduced Keith's text below, as the picture demands to be seen in context.
More picks later.

Meet Gene. When he was a baby he was beaten by his father and suffered severe brain damage and at 40 years old is now a ward of the state and has been since that time. He can't speak aside from repeating the names of people he likes which appears to be almost everyone he meets. He has not seen his mother since he was hospitalised after his injuries and his father died several years ago. I met him a few months ago on his birthday when he was taken for an outing to McDonalds and when we returned him to the delightful care facility where he lives in the hills of Queensland's Sunsine Coast Hinterland ... I was fortunate enough to take this photograph. He truly is a beautiful human being who had so much taken away from him by a horribly violent act.

I thought the tonal rendering in this was especially good. I also liked the composition, light, and patterns and textures in the brick work.

Steveh's use of colour, light and shadow, and effective framing made all added up to a photo I admired:

This was my favourite from Boris's sensitively shot series of the Golden Age.

I enjoy seeing Johan's intimate pictures of family - including the cat, of course.

I enjoyed Andy1881's good framing and decisive moment. The divers look like a stop-motion sequence. It was a while before I noticed the swimmers in the foreground:
