This was tough. I think it was an unusually good week but here's my pick of three.
Divewizard: Low Rider. I think that if it were in color, it wouldn't be as strong an image.
Muser53: New England Spring. I especially like the foreground giving the dark trees in the background a strong presence.
Keith: Self portrait. Just a fine photograph.

hat tip to keith, paul and jcrutcher.
i liked a lot this week, and found it very hard to limit my choices
i have two favorites this week
semrich
sometimes photos take me to really interesting places. i've been to the cistern and thought it was incredible. it's still incredible today. the picture is luminous and brooding and mysterious and layered and...
bravo
my other favorite was from broyler
her face and posture are so calm and the grass is blowing all around her and the sky is so dark. again, it took me to a very cool place.
other things i liked this week
martini - for the tones and textures
tompas - for the unguarded desire to connect, with a little blur
anastasia ioffe - this is also a very cool place, with kids caught at really interesting moments of poise. i like the choice to go for texture in the stone and shadows on the people.
also from anastasia - a very intimate moment between two children. the one's finger on the other is a great detail, and the entire photo builds around it.
paulfish - for getting the moment of light. the net has its own motion, and it's a bit of magic. again, transportative to a very cool place.
mto'brien - i know it's not really from the 50s but it has that look. the kid is so busy and in the moment. i really liked the contrast between the excited people and the calm gray light on the objects.
