After our exhaustive discussion regarding this thread I thought I'd take the lead and start. Perhaps if we leave it open and people can try their various ideas for this thread as they see fit, we can then go from there...

Gallery Picks is an opportunity for you to post a heads up to what you have seen during the past seven days at RFF that you like.
There's no membership requirement, no criteria (except past seven days), no voting, no limit to the number of photos mentioned, and everybody mentioned is a winner.

Anybody can start the thread on a Monday.

What can you say about Frank P's photos ... seldom (never) a boring image IMO. A rarity for this one ... a woman with all her clothes on ... I assume! 😀

hteasley's pic of his daughter Sadie is a bit special IMO ... the pinkish colour cast from the expired K64 absolutely makes this for me. Very good composition too IMO.

My first 'Pick' is Paul's "Two Sunrises"

The sketch like nature of this image works so well for me. Detail isn't needed as this is a far more intuitive language being spoken.

Joao - Surveillance

I liked the strong compositional use of the buildings shape set against the sky as well as the various blues running throughout the entire image. Set against this the, almost, cartoon like pigeons watching the world whilst out of sight of the pervasive CCTV camera.

Tigerphil's - Smithy '10

Simply a beautifully shot documentary style image making the most of the available light whilst allowing us to see the man at work.

Chris' (ChEc) - L1004550

This is the 'snapshot' style photograph that I simply cannot seem to get right. At first glance this could be the kind of snap that anyone has taken but once you really look at the image you start to see so much. The composition truly makes the most out of all that seeming chaos, enough for the viewer to begin to comprehend the scale and complexity of the scene and enjoy it for all the marvelous detail.

Petronius - Rollei_35_074_02

Words such as Fantasy, Mysterious, Dream, Nightmare & Spooky have been used to describe this; rich words that are themselves full of atmosphere...'nuff said!😀

Randomm - Island

Again, the words above apply to this image too. However with petronius' image it was the stop start blur that caught my imagination here it is the split between the sharp and clear water of the bottom left to the sweep of mist/fog that will hide everything from view and force our imaginations to fill the ensuing void with....well with whatever you can conjure up.

and finally, Machspeed's L1001246

Well used compositional devices, good timing to capture an intriguing body shape, an excellent background and an interesting idea behind the picture made this stand out for me. I would also have been tempted to shoot this differently but I don't think it would have worked as well and that for me is always hugely interesting in itself.

Well done to everyone who posted in the gallery, I'm looking forward to seeing how this thread develops this week!

Apologies, I know we've discussed choosing less images rather than going crazy but Scott Wallick has just posted this, it's Monday and I think it still counts, which I think is marvelous.

This is super in my opinion. The stunning colours which whilst being soft and subtle have enough oomph to really lift this image, perhaps the black fence and sign really set them off. The empty platform devoid of the usual commuters in contrast to a sky filled full of winged commuters is a lovely surrealist touch, again helped in this way by such excellent colours. All of this is then presented in a composition that I find very successful. Squared off and tight, the sign in the middle of the 'longitudinal' ( I couldn't think how else to describe it😱) but not slap bang in the centre of the picture which allows the eye to find its way around in an ordered but not constrained manner.

As is often the case with Petronius, I admire the compsition in this, bringing together banality and complexitiy in visual delight.

Israel Alanis, Expressions

Another fine example of Israel's ongoing series, that manages to convey so many natural insights into human conditions all over.

loranger, polaroid mouffetard

In my eyes the structure of the wall in combination with the painting picks up the ideas and possibilities of polaroid photography itself. Well seen and photographed!

No words needed to see the perfect compsition in this.

Machspeed, L1001036

Again: perfect composition and great timeless feel to this.

An interestingly deep space, a quiet moment. I like it.

I have a few more, but they'll have to wait for later. Liquid-Sky - "building", and Petronius - "Rollei_35_074_02" are also on my list, but maybe I'll forego the repetition.

Porktaco - Halloween 2 | I like the emotionality of this shot - a kid learning to overcome his fears by playing with eeriness. Also, the image composition is interesting: There are various frames within the outer image frame. The door is well illuminated, putting the focus on the boy.

Peter^ - In the Alps 3 | I like how the light rays create a dream-like atmosphere. I almost feel the ice crystals gently falling on my head while I'm walking in the forest. Nice composition.

P3tr - Andrea | A charming portrait with nice light, expertly isolated from the background.

Carino - Barbero Loco | I love the contrast between the visible joy of living and the bleak environment. This shot is setting some priorities right.

Inaki - Sonia & Leire | I like the synchronicity of looks in this picture. Well seen. The slanted angle of view adds a lot of dynamics to this picture.

Luiman - 05_11_10c | Great play with structures! The man walking through the image adds unexpected depth.

Again I dare to say "Thank you!" to all who mention my pictures;-)

I like bogotron´s picture for the colors, the contrast, the harsh light, the similar gestures and the mysterious atmosphere.

paulfish4570 created a strong image with completely different ingredients: soft light, almost no color. Very well composed and balanced forms.

OurManInTangier shows again with humor and perfect composition what street photography can be!

robert blu: A dream of past times, well composed and with wonderful matching colors!

israel alanis´ picture has something of a time travel document for me. Perfect motion blur and wonderful colors too.

dyao: Great composition and light, the contrast between sharp and blurry and some enigma!

Carlos M: The beauty of mundane objects in a perfect color composition.

maenju: Only one of a series with great pictures. (Ernst Haas´ peruvian boy comes to my mind!)

we're so used to see portraits from Frank Petronio that it's nice for him to remind us that he can capture scenes far less intimate as well as evidenced by this night shot of midtown Manhattan

one of RFF's masters of minimalism, Petronius always does a lot with a little as here where the strong diagonal draws our eyes along. I especially like the slight motion blur on the right.

really fine work here, capturing a slice of life in Cuba.

I was struck by how the fellow sitting for the haircut is contrasted, with his nearly expressionless visage, with his friend hamming it up.
