To me, photography is expression on the side of the photographer, and feeling on the side of the viewer. So, sorry, no explanations. There are probably "better" photos according to the established aesthetic rules, but these are the ones that touched me; I don't really know why, and I don't want to know.

maddoc, because it goes boom for me. eye is drawn right to the center, background object to keep it from being boring.
gainsbourg - it's so not THE chelsea hotel, but it kinda is
carino - because of the mirror. it's nice enough image without the mirror, but sort of blahblahblah funny guys. with the mirror, it's an excellent photograph.
bogotron - the similarity of gesture - in fact, the flow from one gesture to the other - is wonderful.

Here's my try at a self-imposed limit for this week and believe me, it is very difficult.
I like this one by zeroeseight for the wide expanse of the 15mm view and how the interest is right about at the middle of the frame.

I'm a sucker for mist and dramatic geometric views. When someone sees incredible geometry in the everyday, like the above, and ChEc's Mondrian-like window, those are shots that grab me.

I like Petronius' image bellow.
Lately I've begun to think that photography without human presence is somewhat less expressive. Humans are landscapes in themselves.. but I don't want to talk about that now. The point I want to make is that here comes a photograph that teaches me not to try to formulate rules as good photography can come in many forms.
It has a compositional structure that activates my visual memory, it's like a haunting image that I've seen somewhere but not quite like it. I know I've seen images like this but the haunting effect keeps coming back like a spell. I feel like the photograph is about the memory process in itself.

Well, there was a lot of whining, wailing and gnashing of teeth about "Picks" last week, but it seems at this point to be alive and well with some individual adjustments in the nature of the posts. I still find it a worthy thread to participate in primarily because of the chance to see what other members like enough to post.
Here are my picks, including the image even if it has already be posted, because it offers some feed back about how many individually liked it enough to present it here:
haempe - "Nikolai", A very good night shot. I like the light and shadow play and the old and new buildings in the composition.
Peter^ - "n the alps 3". A stunning capture of sunlight, mist and forest.
paulfish4570 - "Two-sunrise ...", A lovely ethereal composition and tones sets this one apart.
carino - "Barbero loco", Long live 6X6 medium format, a playful scene, well composed, and true to life color with the added little bit of the scene plaved out in the mirror.
robklurfield - "Statue of Liberty", I like this because you can develop all sorts of meaning from it, particularly to current political and economic conditions.
And that's all for this week folks.

rob's new york shots are so great for me, but i'm kind of a homer that way. i'm a child of the 70s in new york, and all the transitions of that time - from black+white to color, from decay to renewal, from traditional to technological - resonate for me, and are captured very well by rob.
also, i generally dislike photos - especially street photos - without people. they seem... cold. that said, i have a hard time picking a single one of petronius' pictures that is not a joy. what he does is very, very hard. finding lyricism in settings that are not in themselves lyrical.
