Irksome, but necessary. If I like a photo by Marc I'll post it, I shouldn't have to pick one I like less. Neither should I have to leave it out.
And I'm too lazy to scroll up and check each photo link against everyone elses

An aside.
I uploaded five photos today, one of them has a girl in a bikini top.
Guess which one has 100% more views than the other?
Just something that made me smile.

How about notifying the people who took the photos you choose by PM or email? Something like, "I have chosen your photo to be in this weeks Gallery Picks, please visit the thread and list a few of your favorite photos from last week while you're there."

We were used to copy and paste the url of the gallery picks thread in a new comment under the chosen photo. Don't know why this useful practice stopped ...
I also think you're right about describing author and photo, personally sometimes I do it sometimes not ...

wde60: that sounds a good idea.
nico: I usually format mine as [name] [title] like you as I too am irked when I ...the third time I've looked at the same photo.

I took a look at Vazaar. Lots of pros there for sure, and for the most part the photographs are outstanding. What differentiates that site from ours is that most photos at Vazaar are from digital cameras; secondly, it lacks the give and take dialogue and topic variety that we have here.
Also, as most of our stuff is film and street photography oriented, there's a rawness (in comparison) and a this-is-the-way-it-really-is look our photographs.
Ted
I agree with Ted here, Vazaar is a great site with great stuff on but I need to see what other photogs, pro or amateur, do with the same gear I have. A good photo is a good photo no matter the lens or camera used, but taking a photo with a 35 or 50 mm lens is a different (different ... no better nor worse...different) business form taking it with a 200mm zoom lens. That's why I like posting in our gallery and trying to contribute to make it lively.
Jon, we should try to post, as the first times these threads were run, the link to the running gallery picks thread in a comment under the choosen photos ... and see what happens ...

Ok i dont understand how this works at all.
You just look at postings from the week? Do you have to send your photos to a specific gallery or anything?
Cause it seems I get almost no views or comments on my photographs.

I think we add photos to our Favorites all through the week, then mention them here on the following Monday, then empty the Favorites and start over.

As we discussed in that thread I started a while back, there doesn't seem to be any specific way to get your photos noticed. Just shoot some amazing work, hope it looks good enough in a thumbnail fo someone to take the trouble to click on it, and hope it's on the recent additions page long enough before it gets buried under an avalanche of cats, dogs and coffee shop patrons!
Jon is right; the easiest way to participate is add the shots you like to your faourites all week and list those in your reply when the thread is started on Monday.
I think the thread is a great idea, especially if more of us (especially myself) participate more often. It should have its own forum!

Wait, so there is a "favorites" button or something?
Honestly this gallery system is horrible. The fact that you have to "upload" your photos to have them added to different galleries is extremely annoying.
I wish it operated more along the lines of flickr in that once you upload one photo it is linked into various groups/galleries of your choosing. So that a comment on your photo in any gallery will show up in all galleries that the photo is in.

Click on a thumbnail and look at the photo.
Below it there is a link to add it favorites.
It will stay in your favorites until whenever you take it out.
Personally, I add all week long. Then review, and post links here, then clear out the favorites.
