Are you folks as surprised as I am as to what are the most popular pictures in your gallery? I have 23 photos in my gallery and take a look every now and then to see which picture has the most "hits." One entitled "Walking" is by far the most popular, while other photos, that I think are much better, barely rate a look. I'm curious if others have noticed the same thing with their gallery "hits."

Well, one thing I've noticed is that those on the first page of your gallery, as opposed to a sub-album, definitely get more views.

Those with comments seem to get more views, or is it that those with more views seem to get more comments. 🙂

I haven't figured it out, really. 🙂 Some of the shots that I like best seem to get few views and some of them that I think are so-so get many views.

I think some of it has to do with certain photos looking good as thumbnails. Others may be better as a full photo, but aren't as striking at the thumbnail size. Strong or simple colors may catch the eye also.

If a photo has a comment there will be more views than one with no comment. That has been my experience here.

I agree as for the women pictures, also, H&S portraits use to get a nice number of hits as well, as humans we're always curious about new faces.

Photos that look good as a thumbnail get more hits, as do photos that feature women.

... and ...

Subject matter plays a role too, as most RFF members are of the male species.

LOL! I **SWEAR** I made this observation myself and then came back to this thread and found these comments. 🙂

I was looking again at my gallery, trying to get more of a handle on what gets hits and what doesn't. Anyway, I decided to look at a few others' galleries, so I start at the first page, which are the "a" user names. Anyway, there' a user there named Alfa who has 7 photos posted.

Anyway, one of those 7 photos has more than 3 times the hits (332 *count 'em* 332) of any of the other 6. I wonder why? 🙂 🙂 🙂

To be honest, I rarely look at my own gallery once I've posted the photos... after all, I've already seen those. I've gone for months before I realized one of my photos had been commented on.

I used to take it personally that some of my photos don't get all that many hits, but then I decided that heck, any more than one person (myself) seeing my photos is a huge gain in audience, so I'll just be happy with that.

Sub-conscientiously, I suppose, often what makes one of my photos my favorite has less to do with the end product and a lot to do with the whole experience... i.e. what lead up to the shot ~ the personality of the person or interaction with the person in the photo ~ the environment of the subject (I enjoyed being there). Someone else, whether here or at home, looks at the same photo without the added thoughts/memories/pre-suppositions and finds it not so special, and yet... brings his own "added thoughts/memories/pre-suppositions" to my next not-so-favorite photo and comments how much he likes it.

IMO, It's probably better to be content with my work/effort/progress despite the attention and comments of others or the lack of it.

Jim its the same for me. None of the pics in my own gallery that I consider the best have any comments at all. I guess we all like different things, I go to the gallery frequently and I'm much more interested in B&W shots than color, in shots with people than those without, and those with strong contrast rather than great tonality. Just my personal likes...
