at the risk of sounding like a broken record (skipping cd?)...

the gallery is primarily intended for rangefinder photography.

there seems to be an increase in the number of digital, non rangefinder and manipulated images being posted there.

this is not a negative critique of the photos btw.

but i think it's getting to be a bit much.

if you are a sponsor (premium member) you have access to the 'other' section of the gallery, specifically designed for non rf photos. please use that section.

we also have had a lot more digital chat lately in the forum also.
please use the o.t. section for this, if you must.
but i strongly encourage you to start using our sister site dslrx, for your digi-talk.
i know it's slow there but if you guys start using it more i'm thinking it will pick up.

this is not intended for anyone in particular.
i just think we are a rangefinder site and i would like to keep it that way.
the internet has tons of digital/slr sites already.

thanks.

Good points, joe. I hope you don't mind that I posted 3 digital images on the 'Camera Porn' thread but my two rangies were making out. 😀

Yes, I second that thanatos & Joe.

There are many dslr / digital sites out there already. (Just a thought, I guess the RD1 & M8 is exempt from this?)

digital rangefinders are part of the family, yes.

and a digital rangefinder MUST be manual focus by way of a rangefinder/viewfinder. No arguments that your GRD is a digital rangefinder. Not that anyone here would do that.

I second the observation about the gallery.

Joe, how did you distinguish my 1981 Sony Mavica images on the 2 1/2" floppy drives that I uploaded. As you know I spare no expense on my equipment. Now if I could just remember how to erase the floppy so I can use it again, they are getting hard to find!

(joke / humour)

I had noticed the recent trend myself, but as a newcomer I didn't think it was for me to say anything. But I agree - I'm learning rangefinder photography, and I check the gallery almost every day to see what people are achieving and to give me inspiration.

Can I clarify one question - are photos taken with a Bessa-L acceptable, given that it doesn't actually have a rangefinder? (I ask because I have a load in processing now, with 21mm and 15mm lenses).

I did send rover an PM about this. I grouped the shots I posted in the "other"gallery in one in my private galleries, also called "other". I hope that is OK. If not, please don't delete them, but transfer them to DSLRXchange in one fell swoop 🙂

Alan - traditionally the Bessa L is granted "honorary rangefinder" status as it's really part of the family, and the short lenses have such a great depth-of-field they don't need rangefinder assistance for good focus. I'm sure Joe will chip in on this.

Jan - can I lend you some floppies - I still have some for my Mavica FD95!

Better than trying to define a rangefinder, lets just take the easy route and say that DSLRs (SLRs too) and digi P&S cameras are welcome, but not expected to be the norm as explained, we are a rangefinder site.
