Random Gallery thumbnails repeat on one iMac, not on another.

When I use the back button to return to the main page from a thread, one Mac will show the original set of photos, while the other updates to a new set. And that keeps me from being able to see the other photos. I've tried fiddling with everything in Safari preferences, but I can't get it to not update, so I can see the other three photos. What do I need to change?

Anybody know what I'm talking about?

Yes! Several months ago my Mac mysteriously went from returning to the same pictures to returning to a new set. I don't know why or how to change it back. I liked it the way it was originally.

Just tried my i-Mac using firefox and Safari ... no problems it returns to the original page and doesn't refresh.

When you google this there is lots of discussion about it and it seems to be a bit random.

Ah, I think I see what you mean. My iMac with Firefox does not change the selection of old gallery shots at the top of the main page after returning using the back button from a link to another page.

But I don't usually click a link to change to another page, instead I just open a new tab with the link by Command-Clicking the link. Then when I'm done looking at that new tab I just close/delete it.

But the different behavior you noted is a mystery...

I thought it must have been something I did, fooling around in "preferences" in Safari. But no matter what I try I can't get it to go back to non-updating. Maybe it changed on its own, somehow.

I have to say that in spite of Apple's so called lack of glitches compared to Windows I was surprised to discover it's not really that way at all. My Mac does some pretty weird stuff occasionally. Every time I do a system upgrade I get nervous because without fail something changes somewhere.

So far High Sierra has behaved itself. :D

Well, it must have something to do with settings in the computer, no? Seems like it's got to be either in the Safari settings, or else in settings via the apple icon. Both of my 2009 Macs used to not update or refresh unless I clicked the reload icon. Then one of them started auto-refreshing, and then the other did also. Could it be a firmware change that apple included in one of the software updates?
