The pre-asph Summilux 35 is the only leica lens I have at the moment mine is a bit of a user but the glass is fine and I think I only paid £350 a few years ago for it, but as Tom A says the most annoying thing about it is the ergonomics. When I only used it on my old M2 I didn't bother with the lens hood as it doubles the length of the lens, but now with the M8 to use the filter I have to use the hood as my version has no filter threads. After f2-2.8 there is no glow/flair and I was very impressed with how sharp it is on the m8.
I have thought of having a filter thread cut on the lens or an insert machined in so I good use filters on the lens directly.

The pre-ASPH 35mm Summilux is the *only* Leica lens that I want.
But there is no way for me to justify spending that much for a 35mm lens.

Not when I can get Red Dot Dagor for my 8x10 for much less :D

Your Red Dot Dagor wins.
In fact, any camera in which you can fit a Leica M INSIDE, wins.

A few years ago, I saw a few 8x10 Astia chromes shot by a food photographer friend of mine. Made me sick & want to quit. It was gorgeous!
...and made with a 60 year old lens.

I love mine, am using a rect 12526 hood, it's an '80s black, post infinity lock version, great rendering all around, excels indoors, and in low light, no distortion. No need for crons, CVs, rokkors, etc. the ultimate 35 for me.

Nate, you must be mistaken! I thought the lux asph lacked character even though it was technically strong.

The 'lux ASPH, shot wide open, has unusual, perhaps unique rendering — among the most distinctive of all modern Leica lenses. The character may not be to your taste (a perfectly reasonable thing to think), but it certainly does not lack character.

While I love the 3.5cm f/1.8 for me like semilog says the 35/1.4 ASPH just has a great look wide open. Nothing I would call clinical looking ever comes out of that lens, where say all the CV 50/1.1 I've seen are very clinical.

keep the uc hexanon.
you will regret selling it.
you have doubts pondering it, and that doubt will always haunt you.
i am keeping mine :)

It sounds like you'll regret selling the UC Hexanon, so you should keep it. For the price difference you're talking you could keep it, pick up a CV 35 f.14, and have some dough to spare. Chances are you could pick up a CV 35 f1.2 within this price difference too.

I sold my UC-Hexanon and don't regret it. Great lens but I didn't like the 0.9M closest focus and bought a 35 Summicron instead.

So I sold the UC Hexanon and got a very nice 35 Lux with the infinity lock. The lens is fantastic. While I know now that I could have been happy with either one, I don't regret selling the Konica lens to get the old Summilux.

I have a good photographer friend and he have Uc-Hexanon 35mm f2, and I love the colors and the quality.
I saw many shots with Summilux 1.4 and what can I say? its wonderful too. If 1.4 makes the difference for you, go forth it.

Both are great lens but the Summilux has a great render.
Good luck
