GAS and Spousal Management

Get the item sent to a friend's house. Collect it a few days later and as it's usually in used condition, if asked say you "always had it - just never used it much". Brand new items collect from the dealer and make sure no ones in when you get home, slip in with the rest of "the collection". Discard the box and wrapping. Failing that Divorce........

Use a two-fronted approach:
First: pitch her on the fact that purchasing all the gear leaves you no money for other pursuits such as dinner at Hooters and hanging out at strip clubs or sports bars. This will stun her for a short time and hopefully defer the conversation long enough for you to come up with a better reason (phase two). Best of luck.

Sometimes, the best defense is a good offense. I offer to buy her a Leica of her own , which I know she'll decline, and then get all pissed off and carry on about how she doesn't want to share my interests and how we're drifting apart. Let it stew for a few days, I then buy her a gift, we have make-up sex, and I'm good to go for another couple of months. Now that I think about it, could she be playing me?

"Occassionally, actually sell a camera!"
Traitor!! Don't listen to him boys, he's been secretively talking to our wives! I actually tried that a couple of times. Both times I got depressed over the sale and bought stuff to cheer myself up. 🙄
"Send a weighted box to a friend and tell her you traded it for this one."
(1) Make sure there's no return address on the box.
(2) Make sure it's a friend you can live without.
(3) Make sure your wife is in the box. 🙂

Hmm ... so many strategies ...

I am blessed by a good woman who has always encouraged me, good on her. She thinks I am mad though.

My friend Trevor:

used the following arguments when questioned:

1. You know where I am most of the time
2. There are no dangerous drugs involved (although I once had a cup of coffee with him)
3. Hours of harmless fun playing with shiny toys
