At present I'm mainly shooting with my Leica M2 and IIIa, for my digital needs with a Panasonic GF2, but I am considering getting a X100, (once I generate the funds) What appeals is the way the x100 has the classic look of a classic rf, b ut I worry that it may not handle like a classic rf. I have heard it is quirky. In practical usage how do people find this camera

It is a very good camera. You have to get used to it which takes a while.

" I have heard it is quirky" so am I ... my wife still loves me :D

Love Mine

Have had mine as well as a 58 M2 for about a year and a half. It is a great camera if you can live with a 35 mm only (28 mm available). It is half the weight of the M2, produces great photos, and is great in low light. Software upgrades greatly improved autofocus speed. When I get lazy or don't want to go with film, the X100 is in the bag.

My wife might stop loving me if I buy another camera, she would probably insist that I sell the M2 to get an X100, quirky does not bother me so much, they say the Rollei 35 is quirky but I still shoot with one.

The X100 is a great camera Mick. I find shooting with the fixed lens no problem for me. When I go into Manchester with the RFF guys I can easily shoot with just that camera while others are shooting their Leicas with various lenses. If its the original X100 you're thinking of getting my mates will say watch this space as they'll know I'll be temped by the new model. That could mean a bargai for you. I'll keep you in mind Mick.

Mny thanks paul, thanks for the kind offer of keeping me in mind, does that mean your planning to get the x100S when it comes out:cool: As you know I quite like fixed lens RF cameras, thats why the X100 intrigues me

Even though I own a xp1 as well as the x100, as good as the x100s is, I do not intend to upgrade. I plan to keep the x100 until it dies. On the other hand, if I did not have the x100 already, I would consider the new one if u can afford it. I am a day one owner of the x100, the sw updates Fuji has made to the camera as really changed it from what it was when it shipped..

Good luck
Gary

The X100 is a great camera but it is a digital camera! I'm always pressing buttons on the back by mistake. The looks of it kind of fool you. I have to train my grip so I don't disturb anything!

I wish I could consider buying a new x100s but it would probably be way out of my budget

I love it..

I was hoping that it would be like picking up a classic RF in its usage

After an initial adjustment period, you will enjoy using a X100.

These tips may be helpful:

Turn of all automatic settings

Use AF one way initially (M mode using the AF button or AFS mode)

Initially turn audio focus confirmation on, this could help you adapt to how the AF works

Don't hesitate to use the digital zoom function to check focus

Remember to use the built in 3X ND filter as needed (bright light, wide apertures)

The lens is not deigned for maximum sharpness in macro mode at f stop numbers below 4

If you use raw: the Fuji's files respond extremely well to highlight recovery, so don't be afraid of overexposure

The maximum ISO is 1600. Above that, the raw (and in-camera jpeg) data is multiplied digitally, not electronically, to simulate increased exposure. A one stop push in raw processing is no problem. At two stops you might see banding in shadows and you will see banding above that.
