Been wanting one of these tanks for a while, but boy, I did not realize how much of a tank it would be! It's like almost 50% heavier than my Exakta 66 Mod II. Insane.

Anyways, really excited to use this 105 f2.4~

I have some Astia, some E100G, and some Tmax..

I have one of these beasts. I bought it off a retired guy who couldn't be bothered to use it anymore.

It really is a massive camera, built like a tank. It's a bit of an ergonomic nightmare to use, IMHO, but it produces great photos.

The 105mm F2.4 lens is arguably the best in the Takumar series. I have seen some really incredible photos taken with that lens. It has great color rendition and nice bokeh ... it's also not an expensive lens (I bought mine 2nd hand for $100 USD) so it's a great value for what you get.

Watch out for the mirror slap! You've probably already read or heard about it. Ka-POW! There's a lot of kinetic energy every time that mirror flaps up and down. For me, I try to stick to the rule of not using a shutter speed lower than the focal length if I'm going hand-held. i.e. with the 105mm, I wouldn't shoot in at an aperture where the light meter was giving me less than 1/125 to work with. Although, if I was REALLY steady, I might try 1/60th.

Conversely, I've taken multi-second exposures at night, resting the Pentax against a park bench for support -- and they turned out beautifully.

BTW I have a few of my 67 shots here, if you're curious:

Good luck with your new purchase!

It is a damn lovely beast of a camera. I have had mine since 1992 and although I only use it twice a year or so, I have not had the heart to get rid of it. A 6x7 negative is just so honking large. Next best thing to large format.

After a week of lugging around a Canon 1DMkIII & 70-200/2.8 zoom, I can't wait to burn up some B&W film in The Beast. It will seem tiny.
If Y'all think the 105mm lens is nice, try the 45mm & 150mm lenses too. The 150mm is a full stop faster than the Sonnar for Hassy. A really nice lens. The 45mm is awesome.

Is that the one with a wooden grip? I saw one in San Francisco, when I met with Thomas (a fellow RFF member who has taken it to Cuba and shot impressive things with it).

Congratulations on your find! 🙂

A Pentax 67 made an appearance at our SF RFF get together this past weekend. That was one honking large camera, and very cool. Congrats and enjoy.

I just rolled Astia though mine, I haven't digitalized them yet but you wouldn't believe what they look like. By the way, the body is about the same size and weight as that FF Canon. The Canon lenses are lighter but they are really just 35mm lenses. Enjoy it, I sure have mine. This is my favorite B&W film; Tmax100 (extension tube):

I was recently buying a MF camera and Pentax 67 was on my list too - the 105/2.4 is indeed a very nice lens. I finally went with a Mamiya 6 for the weight (and limited lens selection - no more GAS 😉 ), but the Pentax has really something into it. If the "67-II" were not so expensive I just might add it to my camera kit. Most lenses are cheap too (save for the last ED version of 300/4).

So - have fun and post some results soon !

You pay for the tank, just like you pay for a big DSLR, but like the DSLR (or a SLR) you get something. You get all the benefits (extreme lens length, extension tubes, exact framing, and many viewfinders) of the 35mm SLR without the minuscule negative size.
