I wandered over to THE BAD PLACE tonight (aka *Bay) and stumbled upon an auction for a engraved Leica IIIc. $175, 1:10 remaining, and NO BIDS! :bang:

I had the mother of all GAS attacks. Even went so far as to ask my wife how mad she'd get if I put a bid on it. But, being as we can't afford it and we just bought a car last Monday, I managed to restrain myself. Took every ounce of willpower I had, but I did it.

Aren't you proud of me?

Well last night I bought the Canon VI-T on a $140 BIN. I told my wife this morning, told her the camera and price, and got "That's pretty good!"

She is use to cameras coming in, and some going out.

I had a bad case of restraint when I saw a Contax G1 body go for $187 four years ago. I really was about to place a bid (and there were only minutes left), but I had to remind myself I couldn't do it for a number of reasons. That's when I discovered the best way to thwart that kind of GAS attacks: I turned the computer off...

Cripes, being a VI-T owner I had hoped they were worth a little more than that!

What kind of condition is this one in?

Brian - well done. I just handled one for the first time today. I like the switchable viewfinder, which works for me even with my glasses. Unfortunately the seller wanted way too much money - AUD$795! Even allowing for the nice chrome 50/1.8 it came with it wasn't worth that much.

I have also wandered to the wrong place yesterday... And my watchlist filled up immediately. I have found several Contax rf bodies...Like a contax II with 50/2.8 Tessar for a BIN of 185$... Then checked the sellers, and it turned out they have more nice stuff, like Bessa I 6x9 and Super Ikonta 6x6 folders...

Anyone interested in a 50/2.8 Tessar for Contaxii(a)/iii(a)? We could zap it together:

...and some going out. That is sooooo important. You bet I made a big deal about the two packages I was taking to the post office yesterday. There is a box on which I have written "For Sale" in my library which I alway try to keep something in. I just feel a need to keep the interested parties aware that I am not just randomly inviting items into my household without sending some away.

Yeah You might have will power, but you don't have a 111c.

Sorry, I thouhgt maybe I would play the darkside today...

I just GAS'd this weekend big time! so come on broke loves company.

I'll post this week when it comes in. The shutter is described as "clipping at 1/1000th, all other speeds good. Described as being a "user", but the pictures all look good.

The same seller has a Canon 35mm F1.5 up for a $300BIN. GAS anyone?

I had a GAS attack today. Went to a camera fair and spent a few $$$ (well, a few hundred). But I got some great buys. For instance, a Moscva 2 for $120, a Canonet QL 29 for $30a and a Soligor meter for $15 (all amounts in AUD).

Chris, did you find anything of interest? Pity we got separated. It would have been cool to hang out for a while, but then again you did have a long drive home.

Joe: I can be a trans-shipper for you, too. I am frequently in southern ON (was in Niagara and Beamsville yesterday,) and can post things for you without worrying about shipping across the border. I know you might not want to support someone who's "too lazy" to fill out the customs forms, but some people have been burned and it's easy to understand why they just don't want to take the risk. Wouldn't be my choice, but to each their own.

Leica IIIc, engraved...Can you post the link? 😀

I'm thinking about fake Zorkis. :bang:

Auction already expired. No bids, either, which was odd. I figured even if I had bid, I'd have gotten snipped at the last minute. Keep an eye out. Maybe the seller will repost.

I really wanted that camera, as I really, really want a Leica and I really want an old screwmount body. However, if I'm going to sink $$$ into a Leica, I'd rather have an M-series and an old Zorki or FED would be good enough for me in the screwmount area. So, I'm not too upset about it.

Besides, I need lenses right now more than another camera body. And I have no cash for either, so it's a moot point either way. 🙁

if you want m quality, good lenses and a screwmount body, maybe think about a canon p 🙂 you'd have all in one!!

just a (biased) thought...

I love my old Leica IIIF, but the combined viewfinder/rangefinder of my Canon IIf is just easier to work with. i also like the variable viewfinder which covers 35mm, 50mm, and 135mm lenses. And $175 will buy you a near-mint example, no "engraved" SSN or anything else. $125 will get a good user.

The "P" will cost a more, $200 for a user and $300 for one near mint.
