GAS attack!!!!

Hi all....

arrrgh... i did it. after lusting for one for almost 2 years, i finally bought meself an M3.

I'm not too sure if it was a good buy, since it was kinda on impulse.

I was thinking of getting the VCII meter but am holding out as this already comes with one. HOwever, I'm not too familiar with this meter and booster. Any ideas on the meter attached to the camera? (in the picture.)

any opinions, views on the camera and the meter? (serial number above 1 mil)

You didn't say if the meter works only that you're not familar with it. I have an M4-P with an MR4 meter (newer model) and it works beautifully. I believe the MR on your camera works about the same as the MR4. If so, be sure not to use the meter with the front door open in bright light. You will pin the needle and could harm the meter mechanism. Open it for low light readings, indoor lighting, for example. Can't recall what the reading dial looks like, but it oughtn't be too difficult to use. Meters usually have two scales, one for low light and the other for direct outdoor light. Play with it and you'll be amazed. Given today's film latitudes, I use the MR4 to confirm my best guess at the light and let the film, especially b&w, do the rest. A stop over/under does not materially affect exposure ... unless you're shooting in total darkness! Also, the M3 bod is gorgeous.

kinda new to this meter thingy, have been pointing a gossen for the past year. So pretty excited about this.

I would stick with the Gossen. I tried the Leicameter route and I didn't like it. I also didn't like the way it bulked up the camera. Stu

Looking at the ebay pics it looks like the meter already left it's mark on the top plate. No biggie though. All the usual repair folks are quite good at removing dings. When it goes out for its first cla you can have it de-dinged. The meter is probably not original to the camera-I think it's about 10 years older. Check to see if the meter has the new or the old shutter speeds. Again, for for a nice looking late ss M3 I think you got yourself a real bargain. Stu

stu, thanks for the notes... i'll probably send the camera down to either DAG or sherry for a full check. Can they really remove dings? Wow!
