GAS seems to be a recurrent topic here on RFF that may deserve closer attention, so here is just a quick poll.

. . . . . just because I like it, does not mean I have to act on it.

2011 was not a good year for managing my GAS, I do hope to do better in 2012!

Another thing is, that we do not have a proper definition of GAS here, but let's see.

Gear Acquisition Syndrome:

Gear = A lens or camera or other photographic equipment.
Acquisition = To purchase
Syndrome = a predictable, characteristic pattern of behavior, action, etc., that tends to occur under certain circumstances: i.e., see a Leica Lens, Camera or other item that I don't have and now must have.

That sums up GAS for me

Yep, GAS. GAS equals new toys. New toys equals fun. Fun equals happiness.

Old toys sometimes do not equal happiness, so old toys get sold, providing funds for new toys.

And life returns to happiness.

GAS comes and goes but is never really far away....

lusting after and acquiring new stuff is always fun until you run out of money, put yourself in a bad financial situation and/or get yelled at/lectured by someone.

The acronym stands for Gear Acquisition Syndrome, sure enough, but the word GAS itself better connotes the pain, embarrassment, and social unacceptability of this horrendous plague on us poor innocent artists.

The bitter irony - try to have some fun and it hurts.

I am not sure if this qualifies as GAS - my two cameras (M3 and Canon 7) have conspired to bust holes in my coat pockets, as I don't feel like carrying a camera bag all the time. So I looked around for a suitable smaller camera (including discussions on RFF) and bought a Yashica Electro 35 that I am waiting on.

That's not GAS, that's just good sense - right?

Along the same lines, I was considering a collapsible lens for my M3 to make it easier to carry.

Wait a minute ... ;-(

I did not start 2012 very well... Just a few days ago - Nikkor 24mm f2.8AIS, it was only 102 EUR, could not pass...

Without my gas I wouldn't be able to enjoy all these great cameras and lenses. So voted for liking it. My team of therapists is still out on it though.
